Any recommendations or sites to stay clear of? Any vendors that may
not be online but do nice work at reasonable prices?

There are a huge number. Check your Yellow Pages. If you don't
find anyone in your immediate area that you like, send me an e-mail.

I have router and table that I can let you use for an afternoon,
provided you can convince me that you know enough to be safe.

If you're thinking you need a router to make cabinet doors - you're
mistaken. I just made up 4 door panels (14" x 36") each with 3 panel
inserts to be used to house my new D4 and I've made raised panel cabinet
doors on several occasions - all made on the tablesaw and no router.

Having a stacked dado set is nice to have to make the grooves the panels set
in but if you don't have one, it's still easy enough to do and involves
making one more pass over the blade to get the exact width needed to house
the panel. It is not rocket science and you can make some beautiful raised
panel doors all on a tablesaw.

Now to give you something to think about when buying those pre-made cabinet
doors. I went thru this exercise last year with my sister-in--law when she
was doing a kitchen remodel on a limited budget. She needed 40 new cabinet
doors and drawers. I priced them out at the borgs. These were for paint
grade, unfinished, flat panel and did not include any hardware at all. The
total came to $2,000, plus another approx $150 for the paint supplies and
the hardware (Euro hinges, door pulls) that would be needed.

I then priced out the rough sawn lumber (all 6-8% kiln dried ash and
poplar), plus the above paint supplies and hardware and we made them for
$550. Considering the cost differential, you can buy a real nice router and
table combo for that kind of change don'tcha think....?

Don't know what it is like now, but a few years back I looked and couldn't
find a decent cabinet door, on the low end, at less than $20/sf.

Of course, if Sam's can sell a solid, well made teak rocker for $129, there
is no telling what you can find now if they are made overseas.

LOL - I love the air of condescension. Sounds like one of my
responses. Very generous offer - thank you. I do have an older
Makita plunger router on a piece of crap Craftsman table. My
ambitions are for a PorterCable 890 series with a real JessEm or CMT
type table in the future.

I actually have a couple full blown cabinet makers within a mile of
our house. In fact one of them did all the cabinets in our new house.
Was looking for someone that has a dedicated interest in just cabinet
doors. Always feel like I'm hassling the local guy. Then I get the
"we'll try to get to it next week" mentality. In fact, I think the
local guy even orders out when he's in a jam - wonder who he uses?

You'll like the Jessem - I have a Jessem table with MasterFence
and RouterLift, set up with a VS DeWalt that I haven't used much
since I got my ShopBot up and running; and I'm about 2 hours from
Minnesota via I-35 and I-80. I have a horror of anyone ever being
hurt in my shop; and intended no condescension - sorry my offer
seemed so.

I agree, one of the local shops would probably be more convenient.

I just bought a load of Accuride slides from them, they were partially
backorderd and Scherrs had good communications. Doors and drawers
seem to be their specialty. I'd do business with them again.
