They call that a "cactus garden".. Assorted types of cactus and volcanic rock, a few slabs of slate standing up and ringed by "**** brick" set at an angle.. I'll dig up a picture from another angle.. mac Please remove splinters before emailing |

This year the hottest was a few days in the 103 - 105 range with 65 - 70% humidity... We monitor a web site for the water temp in the Sea of Cortez and for a lot of the summer the water was around 90 to 94 degrees, warmer in the shallows.. Pretty much lower temps then we were used to in Fresno, CA but much higher humidity.. The good news is that we went to a 65 year old home with original insulation and an old roof-top AC unit to a brand now, super insulated home with 4 mini-split units and very inexpensive power costs.. mac Please remove splinters before emailing |

Lee I think I know what you mean there, Lee.. we're across the Sea of Cortez from mainland Mexico, not on the other coast of Baja, on the Pacific.. Humidity isn't my friend OR my outdoor tools... I learned all about "relative temperature" or "feels like" this summer when my wife got my a little weather station thing.. Some days the "feels like" temp was in the 120's, even though the "real" temp was maybe 101.. So, if I looked at the thing in the shop and it said that it was 88 on the work bench and 120 in the carport, I worked inside that day..lol mac Please remove splinters before emailing |

I can see the basic structure standing up, but in a bad blow you might lose your roof (depending upon construction) or have flooding or water damage. What's insurance like down south? Is it more expensive, and how hard is it to collect on a claim? |

We pay about $400 a year for good coverage, bases on replacement value of $250k.. So far, we've talked to 3 folks with claims, 2 for burglary and one for fire, and all were happy with payment and how long they had to wait.. mac Please remove splinters before emailing |

That's the nature of insurance. I'm surprised how many people moan and groan about how they pay those premiums and never get to file a claim. I always write that check and send up a prayer asking Him to please let that be a waste of money. If you have to file a claim, you lose. You never get back to the break even point financially and there's the hassle factor you just can't get reimbursed for either. Right now my son is wishing he bought renter's insurance. He came home yesterday to find one of his guitars, 2 guns, Game Boy with games, CDs and DVDs, a check book, social security card, and birth certificate missing. He'll have to miss work today at least and I've got to take a day to help him fix the door and deal with the bank and credit people. Who knows how much hassle he'll have down the road with identity issues. -- Posted via a free Usenet account from http://www.teranews.com |
