Rude Osolnik studio sale!
Not sure if anyone here is interested but............Rude Osolnik's studio
is is being sold piece by piece as well as lumber etc. Here tis the link below. Unlike me, this man really knew the turning of baltic birch plywood. He has been deceased for sometime now. His work will be on display at the AAW symposium in Lousiville, June 22-25-2006. They would like to have sold off everything by then, the way I read the website. To be honest some of the equipment looks a little crude (like mine) but this guy turned some wonderful pieces. His Studio is in Berea KY. In addition to being a fine turner he was an accomplished woodworker. Lyndell http://www.rudeosolnik.com/Rude's%20Studio%20Sale.htm |

Rude Osolnik studio sale!
I may be totally off base, but most of the machinery looks very over
priced for the age and quality. Only thing I can figure out is that they think people will pay the premium just because such a famous turner used it. Earl |

I don't know about most of it, but the Vicmarc VL100 seems in excellent
condition, and is offered with an extra "Miarik Meter Master" (anybody knows what that is?) for 350$ which is the price for a new one, but without a motor and without a stand etc... so at least for this item it seems like a decent price (espcially since there is a NAME attached to the lathe). |

That's a Minarik 3 ph. convertor/speed control, itself worth at least $75 and not counting the motor. I'd jump on it if I had the $$. Rude Osolnik studio sale!
With Berea just an hour away it's a shame I never ran across his studio.
I've wandered around there a few times but never noticed his. I might have gotten interested in this a little sooner. -- You know, I spent a fortune on deodorant before I realized that people didn't like me anyway. I am about 3-4 hours out, and like you have been there a number of times, but never been to poverty ridge :-) That is where they say he lived (it was mentioned on the website). Maybe we will have to go there if the stuff don't move fast enough and make an offer on it :-) Lyndell |

Earl I agree with you on this.........or they are trying to raise funds to outfit a more modern shop. From what I have heard all schools are getting away from industrial arts and leaning toward other so-called more practical forms of education. What could be more practical than sitting in with Rude? I have thought to make a poor-boy converter out of a motor but................ 3-phase equipment is sometimes dirt cheap at auctions. Lyndell |

Coincidentally the only item marked "sold" so far. The rest looks
pretty overpriced to me too, at least for this area.
