Hey Guys
Had my very first show. The attendance last year was 11,000 over 5 days. It was probably close to that this year also. Over the past year I have read the posts on this newsgroup but rarely have I posted any thing myself. While my turnings didn't sell as well as I had hoped my other woodworking did. Why I'm posting this is to warn any one who does a show to get a booth away from the exhibitors who are selling food. There were 177 exhibitors and about 20 were food. 6 were down from me. They all had free samples. The problem was the old ladies thought this was a free buffet. The would waddle into the show in their over stretched stretchies and start to binge. They would hit all 6 booths and then become upset when I had no free food for them to slop on. The aromas from the booths would mix and give an odour of my childhood when the Farmer Brown would slop his sows. I can tell you there wasn't much of a stretch between the two. One exhibitor had pretzels as a dipping food for his jams. These old ladies would come up the aisle with both hands full. I think I would have made a fortune if I was selling class. But one the other hand there were alot of classy ladies dressed well and had manners. I know I will probably get alot of angry posts from the group but I just felt I had the right to post my opinions. I would love to hear from anyone else with similar experiences Thanks for the shoulder. I have another large show in the spring. Hopefully my post won't be as critical Peter |
