Default More car radio hassle

Many thanks to those who put me on the track of dabonwheels.co.uk. I
ordered an SMB female to FME male adaptor lead from them, but
unfortunately today they wrote back (very courteously) to explain that
they have no stock. So, Question One, does anyone know of an alternative
supplier?

Today I investigated the van's connections to the radio. There is no way
of knowing (by looking) what each cable does. They are all colour coded
of course but I can't find any info about which colour means what. I'd
be grateful if anyone can help. The van is a 2009 Transit 350. (It's
only done 37,000 miles and it's in brilliant condition. Now I'm on my
own I can't see the point of having a van and a car. I could do without
the car but not the van, so that's why I'm putting a better radio in it.)

Hmm, same radio as in our transit based motorhome. To be honest, ours is a
pile of dingos kidneys and if we could be bothered, wed replace it with
something better.

I'm confused, yes I know it's not difficult but what are you trying to do?

eBay have a number of conversion leads, it's a question of what you are
trying to fit with what.

Your picture with the unit model number was
a good place to start. "fdv200 audio pinout"

"Ford Quadlock Car Stereo pinout diagram"

https://pinoutguide.com/Car-Stereo-F...d_pinout.shtml

The unit sits on the CAN bus, so the car
computer can talk to it.

https://pinoutguide.com/images/uploa...2153_image.png

Still needs some other technical input or reverse engineering,
to figure out what to do next.

There are companies making harnesses for it. I don't
recognize either connector, so hard to say why you'd
want that harness. Maybe you'd have to find a
car stereo place first and ask then what would
be a good fit. Even if you don't end up buying it
there.

RF solutions don't seem to do an adapter or a short cable, you might
have to go via e.g. SMA

No need to ask, fortunatelt he wrote a book or two where he
was explicit about the fact they were "*fetid* dingo's kidneys".

In which case, they must have been pretty nasty.

Without checking on Google, IIRC dogs' kidneys are toxic to humans - as
(I believe) was found out by some polar explorers who had to eat their
huskies.

Not sure about the dogs, and a search reveals nothing relevant on the
first page, but I recall some Arctic explorer mentioning that polar bear
meat should never be eaten raw, and this is borne out by a search ...

https://www.google.com/search?q=pola...bad+for+humans

"Is polar bear meat poisonous to humans?

Polar bear meat is usually baked or boiled in a soup or stew. It is
never eaten raw. Polar bear liver is inedible, as it contains large
amounts of vitamin A and is highly toxic. ... Bear meat should be
thoroughly cooked as it can carry a parasitic infection known as
trichinella and is potentially lethal to humans."

It wasn't the kidneys that poisoned them, it was the liver which had a

Foetid is good, just a typographical difference. Fetid is American, though of
course infiltrating here.

The Greek original was "φουτιδ". The Romans probably changed it to avoid
the "ου"(oe). It still appears in words like "Asafoetida".

Try here

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/adap...at-596/transit

a large range of adapters are available to interface between Ford radios
and other makes - Kenwood, Alpine etc.
Alpine make nice radios - bargains can be found on Ebay :-)
