Could it be that people have abandoned Usenet just like the dragon in Puff.
I still think that is a drug song...

You're right, there is a notable lack of traffic on here. As an otherwise lurker on this group, the low volume of interesting new posts is making my commute to work rather dull.

For want of anything better to say, my New Year resolution is to spend more time in the "Land of unfinished projects" (i.e. the garage/workshop) and get my accumulated junk in order. New multi-compartment plastic storage boxes already bought, in readiness. With more efficient use of space, I will create extra room to accommodate even more crap that I will inevitably buy/inherit/pinch from skips during 2017.

I retired 2 years ago, finished all my jobs/projects and am now going back to work as a lab analyst.

The actual number of new posts per day is still pretty high. Alas the

The EU is a great institution, and we are mad to leave.
Global warming caused by CO2 is a real and frightening phenomenon.
Nuclear power stations are dangerous.

There! I've sorted it for you. No danger of any useful DIY tips getting

True, but I think that the way the news is panning out, everybody now
knows the score on Islam, migration, renewable energy and brexit, apart
from those who are so deep in denial that they cannot admit that the
only good thing that happened last year was Donald trump got elected and
we decided to try and leave the EU...

Yes, removing harry's posts (and the subsequent threads) gets rid of a

I think usenet use in general is definitely dropping off, perhaps
because there are more and more "special interest" forums, plus other
social media outlets. I think the traffic here is down, but most of it
is still worth reading.

I hate forums...

Took me 2 goes to find a Hyundai forum. The first 2 listed in google
were dead and I only found the last one by accident - but it is a very
good forum.

But it was so much easier to just search through the rec.* and uk.*

Whilst I was looking at that BBC link, there was a news flash. Something
important, perhaps? It was this:

"A man shot dead in a police operation off the M62 died from gunshot
wounds to chest, post-mortem tests have shown."

What sort of news is that? It's just stating the bleeding obvious.

I just bypass stuff I don't want to read. its only text takes up little room
unlike crap web sites which is overblown slow twaddle most of the time. I
think the web designer has lost the whole idea of hypertext. the point is
not to make it into some art form or a learning curve to try to confuse the
user, but to link bits of text together across the web intelligently.
