Just found a vacant newsgroup that might suit a lot of us who post OT subjects in uk legal and the D-I-Y group. Shall we jump ship and use this group to save the annoyance of posters who don't like our posts? The subjects could be wide open, so no one can complain about OT posts. Any presently open subjects could be transferred. Worth a try? Anyone for it? Dunno. I went into one like that ages ago and it was boring. Ok Are wimmin allowed? Who can stop you? Attitudes. I don't care about that in political groups because I have interest in that, but here? I don't know. I don't know how to attract more women into the group. I've tried looking at groups specifically for women, but none seem suitable, so it's not worth asking them to join, unless you have any ideas. Me?? I have told you what I have seen in women's groups. Sorry Bod old chap, but you are on your own with this one)) Good luck though Err maybe 'Judith' can help ... He likes to play the female, so who knows) It might help if you have defined a subject for discussion. Just chit chat about nothing in particular can soon pall. I see your point. they have no common interest ...so no good Bod, try looking in uk.misc. You will see what I mean. Ok. |

There is always a but. To be honest, I think the OT posts would continue anyway, and I quite like some of the OT stuff. Bit like standing in a pub with a group of blokes (and girls!) really. Although this group (uk.d-i-y) tolerates OT posts and stretches the definition of DIY at times, I think it does amazingly well to continue pretty well on topic, as it has done for years. There are not that many Usenet groups worth subscribing to, now. I can only agree with all of that. Then why did you make your suggestion? Do you understand what the word "suggestion" means? Everybody else seems to understand my "suggestion" but you. Get a life. |

writes I just realised I am probably responding to you via uk.d-i-y Yes :-) That is the group to which I was referring. I don't 'do' uk.legal, preferring the moderated version. For anyone requiring general wibble, there is always The Shed, still going strong. -- Graeme |

Well been over there and the big problem is that though it may not appear
so, many of the off topic things here spring from on topic things, so it could be a little difficult to control that here. I can honestly say that I have never seen females discriminated against in this group just for being female. There can be mickey taking, the language can be robust, fools are not always suffered gladly but pure discrimination? No. In uk.legal, I have seen Ophelia's gender being used against her. "Judith"[1] in particular uses misogyny in his[1] hitherto relentless attacks on her. [1] only an internet sock-name; sometimes he is James Michael Schmitt, sometimes Walter Smith; and so on. |
