Bob They will not work upside down. I think some will work and others will not. Dan The reason the change over to OPD tanks..was to shut off the fuel if the tank was in any position other than vertical. This to prevent fires if the tank got kicked over. There is a float in the bottom of the new three cornered valve that shuts off the fuel if the tank is other than vertical. Which makes the capacity of the 5 gallon tank slightly smaller..I've heard they are 4.5 gallons..but..who knows? OPD is "Overflow Prevention Device", which was an improvement on the old system by which a tube extended down from the valve to limit the amount of liquid that could be filled into the tank. Unfortunately, some of the tubes would slip out (hot/cold cycles), leading to the tanks getting filled to the top. No ****? You are right. On the Survival groups and the local media...it was claimed to be in the event the tank turned over and it would stop the flow. Walmart made quite a deal out of it..and was trading filled tanks for the old one and $20. I swapped out 6 of them. I just bothered looking it up. Ill be double damned. Thanks!! I have no trouble refilling my 1# propane tank from the upside-down larger OPD-equipped tank, maybe some of them use a different mechanism, I dunno. Jon |

They are ridiculously expensive, but I got mine at the dump (!). Bob Nice! I picked up either a TurboTorch or a Goss 3 weeks ago for $20 and it has only one tip. Its a big flammer IRRC..gonna need to pick up something for pinpoint work. Ill have to go look and see what it is. I brought it home, tested it and put in on a shelf. Btw..anybody need any Acty/air torches..I have several heads/burners..just add a hose and regulator. Cheap! I have (3) of the little MC size acyt bottles, and have found them to be just handy as hell for sweating stuff that needs shrink fits or brazing that needs more heat than propane/air delivers. Hell..Id swap a burner for a weed burner head (propane). Gunner |

I have one mounted over a couple fire bricks to handle quick jobs when the forge would be overkill. Weed burners are also handy for that use. -- Steve W. |

The "weed burner" works good for heating the pot for boiling corn, or mussels, etc. When we do lunch out at the hangar, we often clamp the weedburner in a vice and place it under the pot which is set on the forks of the pallet forklift . Works great. |

That most certainly won't be Goss quality, but how many people actually need a 100-year torch?
