I worked that trade as mechanic, teacher, and service manager for about 25 years I moved to electronics QA work for Southcom, Int'l. in Escondido, CA after not being able to find a good automotive job a few years later. There was a car bombing in front of the L'Stone post office one afternoon - about half an hour after I had been there. Wow, you sure lucked out. That doesn't sound too awfully mild to me, BTW. Been doing the computer gig for 24 years now. Yeah, I did the secondary course in Computer Electronics Technology at Coleman College in San Marcos, CA after hurting my back 27 years ago. I tried to lift at an extension and tore some muscles. The tow truck driver was sick so my boss sent me out to do a tow, but the vehicle had 4 flats. I didn't want to get under the lifted car so I attempted to assemble the towing dollies at arm's length. I'm 80% better now, but can't lift anything heavy which isn't right up against my body. -- Tomorrow is the most important thing in life. Comes into us at midnight very clean. There was a car bombing in front of the L'Stone post office one afternoon - about half an hour after I had been there. Nobody killed, and no serious injuries. Blew out some windows and scorched the pavement. Wow, you sure lucked out. That doesn't sound too awfully mild to me, BTW. Compared to what was going on in some other parts of the area it was mild. 40 miles to Angola and Mozambique, and a whole lot worse just across the bridge in Rhodesia. Had to be carefull where you went and when, and what you said - but that's true just about anywhere today!!! I attended UTI (Universal Technical Institute) in Phoenix, AZ twice. The first was up 'til my appendectomy and then I finished studying after a belated (I woosed out, had far too many adhesions as a result, and I haven't forgiven myself for it.) recovery. Bad knees and shoulders convinced me to look for a different way of making a living before hitting 40. Had surgery on one knee back in the eighties, while still in the trade, and on one shoulder last year. I did my Automotive Apprenticeship training at Conestoga College in Guelph Ontario, and 20 years later took my microprocessor.Minicomputers course from N.R.I in Washington.
