In other words, you're not investing because of taxes you think are
coming.
But how does not investing improve that picture for you? Are you expecting
losses? Are you expecting your market to decline?

Why bother asking him? First he says he's willing to invest in an
asinine new hire, then he says he won't invest because of the dems.
It's all horse**** that may as well be coming directly off gummer's

Ha-ha! Tom is a smart guy. I've talked to him on the phone. He just likes to
play part-time troll, by his own admission. There's no doubt that he knows
he's gotten himself into some circular logic here, but it's fun to watch him
pace around the corral, thinking he's still a racehorse. d8-)

And if those are reasonable expectations, why are people offering to buy
your company from you? Are they stupid?

I don't believe a word of that stuff, or his claims of being wealthy.

Oh, he's doing quite well. He inherited a business and he's grown it quite a
bit.

And if you expect losses but there
are people ready to buy your company RIGHT NOW, why in hell aren't you
selling?

He'll probably say that he doesn't need the money.

Actually, I don't think he does. But his arguments make it sound like he's
hanging on by his fingernails.

Oh wait, I see that
he claims to be waiting for 2010. After the fantasy revolution one
presumes, when he plans to make some real money in the coffin biz.
'Cause we all know the premium that dead dems who don't work and are

None of the complaints seem to hold together.

No kidding. He jumped the shark a long time ago when he got to the
point that he could no longer make it through most of his posts
without scapegoating "libtards" or whatever. Now he's demanding Usenet

Individually, Tom won't notice it. But if other small businessmen
do the
same thing, we'll all notice it.

But investing on more productive equipment means that Tom can
employ fewer workers. *So this is not where the jobs are going to
come from.

First, if you're right about that, then Tom is perpetuating a
fraud when he ties his investment to hiring more workers. g But
that's not right. If he's adding to equipment he'll have to add
workers. If he REPLACES old
equipment with new, he *may* be able to reduce the number of
workers. But
that's not likely. It would take a lot of investment, and his ROI
probably
wouldn't stand up, in comparison with simply *adding* some new
capacity to
increase his output.

Your imaginary model of my business is so far off the mark I don't
even know
where to BEGIN to correct you.
A. *I don't HAVE any old equipment, haven't you been reading my
posts for the past ten years?
B. *I have drastically reduced the number of man-hours per product.
C. *I don't buy equipment, I design and build it for the costs of
material and labor...no bank loans.
D. *My equipment is beyond state of the art.
E. *I have plenty of excess capacity in some areas and I run
overtime in other areas. *It depends on the market, the Democrats
have destroyed the industrial market...guess where my excess
capacity is? *But I don't need it
and idle machines don't eat anything.

I get four or more good, legitimate offers for my company every
year and many more bull**** ones. *I can sell and retire any time I
want for more than I can ever spend. *I must have done some things
right, so I trust my OWN judgment and instincts a whole lot more
than yours.

Why don't you come and visit?

Because Ed has been largely a failure in Business and has spent his
last several years doing "craftsman" type work.

Id be surprised if he could turn a crank on any machine without some
serious thought and some outside prodding.

Having his world view of others and his OWN sucesses invalidated
would give him a serious case of the Ass..so dont expect him to
visit any time soon.

over extended. *It REALLY busted their chops when their oldest boy

blotches every time I mention it.(hee hee hee)

(hee hee hee) those blotches were more likely the result of them thinking

I don't see anything "hee hee hee" funny about that.

Because Libtards think that the Obamassiah is working to make the

Damned shame they will soon be living out of their cars..or a big old

That is not going to happen. After all, What kids?

it would cost to buy it or have it built. We write it off as shop

Some people seem to believe that with more taxes, people will tend
to work less and businesses will hire less.

This view is, at best, simplistic, and at worst, less than sincere.

I would like to point out that it is much more complicated than
that and effects of taxation, outside of extremes like 100% taxes,
are not nearly as obvious.

Here's an example.

... example snipped...

From a different point of view, consider the effect of taxing the
business
that provides that $100/hr job. Can the business expend capital
(risk) to
expand and hire more $100 workers? Or, buy new equipment built by
companies
that hire other $100/hr workers? With more capital going into the
bottomless pit of government, there is less capital available to
hire people
and buy equipment. Less money in the whole system means less
presents for
mistresses, less demand for all sorts of goods which leads to less
production and less jobs.

That's a good question and it took me a couple of days to think about
it.

The standard approach here is to say that any taxes on businesses
that are in a competitive industry, in the long run, are borne by
their customers, by way of paying a higher price for goods.

If we assume that a certain degree of business risk would demand a
certain amount of return on capital, the above makes sense.

In my little world, my accounts are in great shape, I'm lucky enough
to be almost recession proof. BUT, I'm not risking ANYTHING! The
standing order is not to buy anything we don't absolutely have to
have and watch every penny. No landscaping projects, no new
lunchroom furniture, no new computers, no luxuries!

These are uncertain times, the health care fiasco, the cap-n-tax
scam, and the massive spending of this administration frighten the
hell out of me...why should I risk? I will just hunker down and
wait for the end of this administration. And, if I don't risk, the
landscapers, computer makers, furniture makers and luxury makers LAY
PEOPLE OFF!!! It's not just me, it's most small business owners in
general feel the same way. No mater what the liberals say, it won't
change this. PLEASE, TELL ME YOU GET IT!

I do get it. But I think that you are overstating effects on changes
in tax rates on your business. Also, and more specifically to the
issue of alternatives to higher taxes, the effects of inflation are
more deleterious in many respects, and create even more business
uncertainty, than higher taxes.

i

I can't raise prices, I have year-long contract and I have to compete
with foreign competitors that don't have these taxes and other
bureaucratic expenses. It's true that other businesses can just pass
these costs on, but I can't.

Sure you can Tom.
Once a year.

I used to have some respect for Ed but now that he presents assumptions as

left in general. Notice the ones that fling the most lies and innuendoes

It might be that you see a symbolic representation of the drastic fall of
the libtard power base. Even SNL and some of the networks have turned on
them...there's blood in the water (figuratively speaking) and like Sean
Connery, the king is no longer a god! Now he's being de-kingafied! Even
the black people at the plant hate him and the asshole Democrats. Talk
about buyers' remorse! Obama's making Carter look good. It looks like we
won't have to wait until 2010 for the libtards to lose power, it's happening
NOW!

I AM doing a half-hour at the range every week. So far, my 1911 is holding
the best groups for centerfires, but I haven't taken my Model 19 yet.

Yeah, just go to the NEA (the art one) and call it a grant for "art"!

Let's see, if I get a grant for optics art, then find that the old SKS
ain't good enough, do you suppose they'd give me another grant to
upgrade the bottom half to a Barrett? Hell, I'd even settle for a 98

Tom, you've got to get out of Cleveland more and see what's going on in the
United States. The latest polls show Obama's overall approval rating at
53% -- virtually the same as the percentage of the vote that he won in the
election.

That's the same as Ronnie's term average, and roughly the same as his
approval rating at this point in his first term. Reagan's overall term
average in the Gallup Polls was 52.8% and he dropped below 44% twice during
his term.

It wasn't until 1989, years after he was out of office, that he was given
sainthood. Absence makes the heart grow fonder. d8-)

In California..small business is dying like flies in a Raid filled room.

And large business is dying as well.

And why don't libtards get that?

Because Libtards think that the Obamassiah is working to make the
country Better..IE health care and free child care.

Damned shame they will soon be living out of their cars..or a big old
reefer or washer and dryer box and wondering how they are going to fix
their kids something to eat.

That is not going to happen. After all, What kids?

Did they sell their children?

Liberals didn't have them. Remember, "for the environment"? The

there will be nobody at their death bed to bring them a glass of

Tom, you've got to get out of Cleveland more and see what's going on in the
United States. The latest polls show Obama's overall approval rating at
53% -- virtually the same as the percentage of the vote that he won in the
election.

That's the same as Ronnie's term average, and roughly the same as his
approval rating at this point in his first term. Reagan's overall term
average in the Gallup Polls was 52.8% and he dropped below 44% twice during
his term.

It wasn't until 1989, years after he was out of office, that he was given
sainthood. Absence makes the heart grow fonder. d8-)

Individually, Tom won't notice it. But if other small businessmen do
the
same thing, we'll all notice it.

But investing on more productive equipment means that Tom can employ
fewer workers. So this is not where the jobs are going to come from.

First, if you're right about that, then Tom is perpetuating a fraud when
he ties his investment to hiring more workers. g But that's not right.
If he's adding to equipment he'll have to add workers. If he REPLACES
old
equipment with new, he *may* be able to reduce the number of workers.
But
that's not likely. It would take a lot of investment, and his ROI
probably
wouldn't stand up, in comparison with simply *adding* some new capacity
to
increase his output.

Your imaginary model of my business is so far off the mark I don't even
know
where to BEGIN to correct you.
A. I don't HAVE any old equipment, haven't you been reading my posts for
the past ten years?
B. I have drastically reduced the number of man-hours per product.
C. I don't buy equipment, I design and build it for the costs of material
and labor...no bank loans.
D. My equipment is beyond state of the art.
E. I have plenty of excess capacity in some areas and I run overtime in
other areas. It depends on the market, the Democrats have destroyed the
industrial market...guess where my excess capacity is? But I don't need
it
and idle machines don't eat anything.

I get four or more good, legitimate offers for my company every year and
many more bull**** ones. I can sell and retire any time I want for more
than I can ever spend. I must have done some things right, so I trust my
OWN judgment and instincts a whole lot more than yours.

Why don't you come and visit?

Because Ed has been largely a failure in Business and has spent his last
several years doing "craftsman" type work.

Id be surprised if he could turn a crank on any machine without some
serious thought and some outside prodding.

Having his world view of others and his OWN sucesses invalidated would
give him a serious case of the Ass..so dont expect him to visit any time
soon.

Gunner

Ah, RCM's very own welfare queen pops up to spout more bull****.

What "business" have I been a failure at, Gunner? What was its name? I own
my own modest home; I own two modest cars that I bought new four years ago,
which I'll replace in another two years; I just put my son through a
top-rated private university; I pay my taxes and my bills; I'm 61 and I've
been fortunate enough that, by living pretty frugally, I now can work pretty
much when I want to. Or not.

My "business" is writing, and I have over 350 published articles, chapters
of three books, and countless advertising and corporate communications
pieces behind me -- plus photography for 22 magazine covers and around 200
of my articles.

How about you?

Last I heard, you're into the government (by way of a hospital or two) for
$275,000

Those are only the latest bills. IIRC, the previous one was for
something like $40k. And let's not forget that he has frequently
claimed to be supporting his family, which as it turns out runs the
tab up into the millions.

because you're an irresponsible fool. The government -- that means
our taxes -- secured payment for at least the "medicaid" equivalent for your
heart attack and your stroke, and now it's paying most of the interest.
Current unsecured personal loan rates around Bakersfield are 18% - 22%. You
didn't have collateral to put up for that amount, did you? I didn't think
so.

Let's be generous and say the government (our taxes) is paying down half of
your interest rate on a principle amount that's perhaps 50% the size of your
actual bill. And you still have a bill for the balance, unless they took
pity on you and made an "indigent" deal to reduce your rates. Are you paying
back $13,750 a year? No? That means that, besides paying down your interest
rate, we're paying most of the interest itself. And unless you're paying
MORE than $13,750, you aren't paying back any of the unsecured balance on
your bill. They've probably written you off on their books by now.

Even worse, CA is forced to cut back on education in order to pay the
interest. Ensuring that future generations get the maximum number of
gummer-types and their progeny.

You're a freaking welfare queen. It's amazing that you're snotty enough to
criticize others' accomplishments, since you're currently scrounging pick-up
jobs at failing metalworking shops for a (semi) living.

Why would you believe that he's working? Because he says so? I
wouldn't be surprised if he's living off sonny's SSI bennies, and
posting under a nym on his "off" days .

No doubt you once
had a lot of potential, practically all of which you've squandered.

There's plenty of doubt that he ever had potential. The available
evidence indicates that his mental illness goes back to his teenage
years.

As for your "business," I doubt if you know how to read a balance sheet.
Calling it a "business" is an insult to popsicle stands everywhere.

Gummer's idea of a business was to slap P.E. onto his card and drive
around in a beater while claiming to earn $75 an hour, even though he
knew full well that he was only netting minimum wage at best. And no
doubt criticizing Bill Gates or some such at the same time, over
"borrowed" wifi in between "clients"!

Why bother asking him? First he says he's willing to invest in an
asinine new hire, then he says he won't invest because of the dems.
It's all horse**** that may as well be coming directly off gummer's

Ha-ha! Tom is a smart guy.

I occasionally slip up and refer to my dog being smart, but then I see
him eating rabbit poop, or barfing up a treat that, due to his
smartness, he thought would be a good idea to swallow without chewing.
:-)

I've talked to him on the phone. He just likes to
play part-time troll, by his own admission.

He's just another rabid partisan who doesn't realize that the lack of
reasoning he displays here argues against his case, and against his
own intelligence.

He inherited a business and he's grown it quite a
bit.

Have you seen any financial statements? I can't count the number of
businesses I've known over the years that were a whole lot less than
what they seemed. In fact, I can think of a couple right now that are
in deep doodoo and hiding it. No doubt if Bernie Madoff had been on
Usenet, he'd have been bragging about his wealth, just like Tom.

'Cause we all know the premium that dead dems who don't work and are
all on the dole snorf will pay for their burials.

None of the complaints seem to hold together.

No kidding. He jumped the shark a long time ago when he got to the
point that he could no longer make it through most of his posts
without scapegoating "libtards" or whatever. Now he's demanding Usenet
apologies. Now *there's* a surefire strategy that could only come from
a deep-thinking business owner! :-)

Think "hobby troller." That's Tom. He's much more sensible in real life.

I used to have some respect for Ed but now that he presents assumptions as

lost all respect here and overseas, he's not a god anymore and the people

When stalwart citizens like you start laughing at the antics of the
Government...with them only being in office 10 months...and their poll

And they have 3 yrs left. Well...shrug...only if my vision was wrong.

Its fascinating to see the polls that have conservatives are now ranking

Frankly..I hope Im right..Id hate to have 1 out of 6 wrong. Id start

And what country can preserve its liberties, if its rulers are not

Political Correctness is a doctrine fostered by a delusional,
illogical liberal minority, and rabidly promoted by an
unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the
proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean
end.

Practice-practice-practice!

For your personal safety during the Great Cull..you may wish to start
working out with a scoped large caliber rifle.

Ive plenty of e-books I can email you on "long range personel
interdiction" and so forth if you would like.

Just a heads up.

In urban areas....up close and personal has its limitations...but...do
as you see fit.

I plan on living through the Great Cull and long afterwards...so if I
decided to get off the porch..Id simply use one of the heavy barreled
rifles and work at many hundreds of yards.

Hmmm... director: one who gives direction to others, a

directer: a device used to control the
flow of something.
Was that a typo or intended. Either way it's

Russian.,.Japanese..they were all enemies at one time or another..and
likely will be enemies again.

Might I suggest a Savage heavy barrel in .308? The new ones are
marvelously accurate out to 1000 yrds or more.

I personally prefer something a bit heavier for those really long
shots...300 Win Mag at the least..but the .308 does the job very well
all on its own.

Just a heads up....

You don't have your shop-made equipment on your books?? How do you
report your assets when you go for a loan? Don't you have business
property taxes in Ohio? Tom, Tom...have you undervalued your
assets? g

My accountant states that I can't take $2k in steel and $2k in
parts and $5k in labor and capitalize it as a $50k machine...which
is what it would cost to buy it or have it built. We write it off
as shop expense, perfectly legal. As far as assets for loans, the
building and property, paid for, more than cover any loans we would
want.

If $9,000 is all you invest in a machine, then, it doesn't sound
like you're inhibited in your investments by whatever it is you're
complaining about.

I still don't get how you're claiming that costs are keeping you
from investing, but I don't think I'm going to learn much from this
go-around.

It's PERCEIVED costs if the Democrats get their way and tax the ****

In other words, you're not investing because of taxes you think are

The Democrats will be out of power in 2010, I'll hold out. If I sell
now, what would I do? Sit at home?

You could go practice with your Mini-14, for the revolution Gunner says
is coming.

What if you hold out, and you're wrong? By then, if you're right, your
business will be worth nothing, right? Where will the buyers be then?
Where will the customers be?

Well, if libtards have their way, it won't matter. After the nuclear
exchanges that Obama and his minions will cause, after half the country
is living in tent cities due to Democrats destroying the economy further,
after domestic manufacturing is either owned by the government, shut down
or moved out, after libtard cheese-checks loose their value to buy 40s
and drugs, after everybody has free health care but nobody to pay for it,
after CO2 production is eliminated(with all jobs, heat and
transportation), after all that...I will be long gone out of the
US...just like the rest of American jobs.

I shouldn't have sold my Gibbs, it could "pink-mist" at 1,000 yards,
although I would have needed to upgrade the optics. I saw a nice Zeiss
for about $1,000 at Midwest, I wonder If I could get a government grant
for improving the environment?

I doubt it. But after those two paragraphs, you could look into getting
one for some personal counseling. d8-)
