Default Ten Reasons Why the Auto Bailout Is a Bad Idea

The real problem is GM is a publicly owned company. And only gives a crap
about short term profits. And is a mismanaged mess. Has abandoned the US
market for Chinas big market. And makes cars nobody wants. They have been
screwing over the entry level customer for decades . Who goes elsewhere for
his entry level car. And never comes back. Their price structure has
nothing wrong with it. Labor cost are fine. Other car companies best cars
and most reliable well built cars, are their low profit entry level cars .
These cars retain customers, And get the customers back for an upgrade
later. GM makes you buy a big ass truck to get a decent vehicle , And has
abandoned the entry level car . Because its not profitable enough. They
abandoned building small cars people want. They abandoned the entry level
customer or college grad. They abandoned little cars. Therefore they have no
returning customers . And they get smaller. And still fly around in
private jets killing the company .

Show of hands, how many people believe poster is a UAW worker at GM?

No. Wouldn't make sense. Why would a auto union worker, working for
one of the big 3, go around bagging them? - I would imagine the
opposite. You didn't think too deeply on that one Wes - there will
come a time when ideology must give way to reality, - you cant keep
blaming lefties/commos/socialists/democrats for all the worlds ills.
Its convenient, but too simplistic. Thinking is a difficult exercise,
but I am confident you could do it.

I've worked in the automotive segment most of my working life. When and if
GM/Ford/Chrysler fail, it very likely will hurt me. There is a lot of blame to share.
Back when money was easy and the big three had market share they should have fought harder
when labor made unsupportable demands.

The unions did a masterful job of grabbing the gold off the table which is what they
promised their members. Now the good times are over. Market share has eroaded, cost
structures are high and their is the burden of huge legacy costs. I wonder how the unions
are going to deal with that? Their members existance hinges on a plan that can compete
with the non union US transplants.

As far as bagging the company the union worker works for, unions tend to whip up it is the
companys fault type resentment. I hope the european version of unions are more
elightened.

Hope you are having a good morning Andrew,

Wes

I heard a lot of that from techs at AC and Delco plants, how the
company was cheating them by only paying $14 / hr (in 1975).

On the company side, the engineers all pushed bigger-is-better despite
the oil crisis of the time. My Civic was an oddball curiousity NOT to
be emulated.
