What, I ask, what are the odds, that would happen to buy a tool, that you yourself sell. One would think that you could get a discount. Just thought I would let you all know... Is there a book that tells you that this is the way to use "Tha Intarweb" for marketing, or do you people come up with this transparent scheme all by yourrself? Was this your idea, or Stewart's? |

Your above post is a prime example. Who is going to buy something from this guy even if the product is a good one? If he posted a message such as hello, sorry for this ad, but I have such and such great tool that we invented (if that is true), he would have gotten possibly some interest. Here, with this fake post, he pretty much ruined any possible interest. i OK, let's give it a try. An honest post, from someone who contributes knowledge to the discussions here. Yes, I am financially involved, and yes this is spam. Over in the aircooled VW group, there was (probably still is) this one guy, John something, who is very active and helpful in the group. It also turns out that he sells VW restoration supplies. Kind of like Steve Knight in the rec.woodworking group, he's a subject matter expert, is respected because of his participation, and the odd commercial post from him is not just tolerated, but welcomed. If I need a taco holder, I'll go with Dave here. If I need a excellent hand plane, I'll buy it from Steve Knight. If I need autodrill stuff, first person I'll talk to is Joe. It's about reputation and how one interacts with the group. Someone who comes in, contributes nothing, exploits the group for their own commercial gain (while insulting the group's intelligence by using literally the oldest trick in the book) won't get the same response as someone like you, who we know by your posts. Any luck talking to QVC or someone about your taco holders, Dave? Someone must be willing to market those suckers for you. And it's just a matter of time before the chinese start making knock-offs, so beat 'em to the punch. |

Intelligent people usually can guess that even without trying to spam. Hence, USENET spammers (unlike email spammers), are usually very stupid people with varying degree of stupidity. Some comments, assuming this is something you actually intend to sell:
1) They are too cheap. I would make the cost at least equal to the shipping ($2.99 each). 2) There are "errors" on the page (at least with IE6). 3) You have a "0" page ranking on Google. You might want to work on that. 4) You call the product "Taco Tender" but in the shopping cart it's called "Taco Holder". Not meant as criticism in any way... just observations. Price is sort of meaningless if I need/want one, $2.99 is still cheap... until somebody else offers one for less. Errors on the page not only look bad, but make me nervous about security... especially if I'm going to order online. Google is basically the whole game right now... a page rank of "3" is sort of the minimum for a retail site IMHO. It's confusing to have the order form show "Taco Holder" and then say the cost of the free "Taco Tender" will be deducted... makes it look like what I'm ordering is different from what I'm getting for free. (Yes, I can figure it out... but why make it more difficult or less "legitimate" than you need to.) David "Dave Lyon" wrote in message news:MKIag.949998$x96.852262@attbi_s72... I'll give you guys a little back ground on this project because I'll bet a number of you are in similar situations as I am. I own a small machine shop (4000 sq feet). We specialize in building plastic injection molds. A couple of years ago work was very slow, and I had a brother that was between jobs. I told him about my idea of a taco holder, and he thought it was great. We made a deal. I would build a mold for it, and he would play sales man. So, I went to work. Got a patent, built the mold, passed the baton on to my brother. Right about that time, he went through a nasty divorce, and found a job. Suddenly he had no time to play sales man. I am a manufacturer. I build things for a living. That's what I'm good at, and it's what I've done for over 20 years. I am not a salesman, or even a very good business man. Here I am, stuck with a great idea that is under funded, and without a qualified salesman to push it over the edge. Not to mention I stay busy enough running a small business, and raising 4 kids. I have managed to land a little contract with Ortega, and I sell a few on the internet. It's obvious that this project needs a booster shot of cash and time to make it more profitable. I'm just not sure I'm willing to take the gamble. |

Have you tried selling to restaurants that sell Tacos? One of the local Mexican restaurants has a luncheon buffet. I would think they would buy some. If you do sell to restaurants, it would be good to have your web site molded into the part, so people could think this is a really great idea, Ah a URL, I can order some. Dan |

Wow what a great tool

I'll be starting my website over from scratch soon and I will be taking your advise on the new version. Dan Yes, I've sold to a couple of small restaurants. And, all the Taco Tenders have my website molded into them. |
