I've been using OE for five years now without a problem. You like other
applications, fine, but being snobbish about reflects poorly on yourself.

YMMV. But since I'm posting here, those stupid "latest Microsoft
updates"-eMails rocketed up. Not that they will harm my PC (read Mac),
but OE is potentially a big risk. As I sayd, _Y_MMV!

Well, that's a function of several different considerations. One being the
fact that posting to usenet brings spam, the other being that most people
are smart enough not to install software from spam, neither of which bear on
the ability of OE to function properly. I believe there used to be an issue
with usenet and mail not having a high enough default security setting, but
it's user-changeable anyway and IIRC had the default behavior changed in an
update some time ago.

Some people don't like the general features of OE, which is a valid point,
but I find it perfectly adequate for my uses. As you said, YMMV.

the other consideration is that you should not put your correct email
address in the "address" or "reply to address" fields of the header when you
post - see for example, how Jon has done it - that helps with spam
dramatically

It is decades too late for me, so I just do very aggressive
filtering and blocking.

Enjoy,

Sadly DoN I'm in the same boat as you.

It's been many decades that my real address has been publicly available, and
for professional reason must stay that in in many places, so .. SpamAssasin
trashs about 3K a day and Spamhaus.org blows off about 1K from known
spammers.. such is life in the 21'st century.

Oh, I dunno, my email address is perfectly valid. I pay spamcop.net 30
bucks a year, and they block 99% of the crap. And, in several years,
only one valid sender has had their mail blocked, and she was including
it as an HTML attachment - which is a user problem more than a filter
problem.

But, if for no other reason, the numerous security problems with OE
should be a good enough reason to avoid it, if you choose to run
Windows.
