the other consideration is that you should not put your correct email
address in the "address" or "reply to address" fields of the header when you
post - see for example, how Jon has done it - that helps with spam
dramatically

Well, that's a function of several different considerations. One being
the
fact that posting to usenet brings spam, the other being that most people
are smart enough not to install software from spam, neither of which bear
on
the ability of OE to function properly. I believe there used to be an
issue
with usenet and mail not having a high enough default security setting,
but
it's user-changeable anyway and IIRC had the default behavior changed in
an
update some time ago.

Some people don't like the general features of OE, which is a valid point,
but I find it perfectly adequate for my uses. As you said, YMMV.
