I watch Danish movies with the subtitles turned on. So do the Danes.

There is a joint Danish/Swedish series, Bron, that preceded the US 'The
Bridge'. The Swedes have unkind things to say about the Danish actors'
grasp of any intelligible language.

No, that's a surname that got filtered through English. I think that one

Nah, I was less than a year old and learned it like I was speaking it
all my life.

I had missed opportunities. My grandparents were from Poland but never
spoke it to us as kids but I wish they had when it was too late. I
picked up a few words from their conversations with my parents. In
high school I was given two years of Latin but now wish I would have
fought to take Spanish as it would have helped in real life.

Yeah, I had Latin and German in high school. The 'business/shop' kids
took Spanish. They also took typing, which I've never mastered despite
close to 50 years of typing code from keypunch machines and on up. At
least words on a LCD screen are easier to fix than holes in a Hollerith
card.

What if someone invents a time machine? You can go back and be
understood by the Romans.

It used to be handy for understanding the Mass but then they dumbed that
down too.

It folds and has a handy pocket clip but I could make do with the

liberals don't carry knives; sharp things trigger their anxieties.

Pretty much. In my trade I read a lot of programming sites. It's always
puzzled me that among all the nationalities you seldom see a French
programmer. Maybe they are too snotty to talk to the rest of us and have
their own home on the dark web.

Americans have a lot of land, and therefore a lot of resources. That
doesn't mean you have any brains.

Who needs brains? We've proved over and over again you can rise to the
highest office in the land without the encumbrance of brains. In fact
when a supporter gushingly told Adlai Stevenson that all intelligent
people would vote for him he allegedly replied "That's not enough,
madam, we need a majority." Eisenhower won by over 15 points.

Yeah, I had Latin and German in high school. The 'business/shop' kids
took Spanish. They also took typing, which I've never mastered despite
close to 50 years of typing code from keypunch machines and on up. At

Latin had been discontinued by the time I was in high school. I took
German. The 'business/shop' kids were barely required to learn English,
let along a foreign language. This was a downscale Detroit suburb in the
1970s.

On the plus side, girls were required in junior high to take two semesters
of typing. That was the most useful thing I learned in my entire education.

It's a religious thing, sort of like a Sikh's kirpan except mine isn't
ornamental.

Yeah sure.

How can it be like a Sihk's Kirpan when it's not religious and is not
ornamental either.
It's nothing like it.

It is fear, but he is simply afraid to admit it.

Seems like it.
I sometimes carry a tiny pen knife that doesn't lock, but it is only
1¼" long and is used to sharpen pencils/cut string etc. No need for any
knife longer than that.

There are a lot of very fearful and insecure people, all over the
world. They compensate by bragging, adorning themselves with tattoos,
facial hair, carrying weapons, cosmetic surgery, by driving expensive
cars and living in houses which are far too large to be practical, and
that is the short list.

When I am working around the property, I always wear a pouch in which
I carry a utility knife, diagonal cutting pliers, a multiple tip
screwdriver, channel lock pliers, flashlight and gloves.

When I leave the property, I carry a phone, billfold and sometimes
keys. The keys all depend on whether I am walking, taking a vehicle
or riding one of the horses.

Even though I am in my 90's, I am still 6'7" @ 262 lbs. (200.7 cm @
119 kg or 18.7 stone) with a 36" waist. It is possible my shear size
allows me to be less fearful of other people, but, even if I were
5'7", I doubt I would be so fearful that I would feel the need to
carry a weapon in the course of daily life, not even for "religious"
reasons..... ;-)

Wow! you're in your nineties and still riding horses !!
That's impressive.

Are you having a little problem with the Havamal? I prefer the Old

the Middle East. Nothing good ever came out of that area.

Nah, I was less than a year old and learned it like I was speaking it

I had missed opportunities. My grandparents were from Poland but
never
spoke it to us as kids but I wish they had when it was too late. I
picked up a few words from their conversations with my parents. In
high school I was given two years of Latin but now wish I would have
fought to take Spanish as it would have helped in real life.

Yeah, I had Latin and German in high school. The 'business/shop' kids
took Spanish. They also took typing, which I've never mastered despite
close to 50 years of typing code from keypunch machines and on up. At
least words on a LCD screen are easier to fix than holes in a Hollerith
card.

Latin had been discontinued by the time I was in high school. I took
German. The 'business/shop' kids were barely required to learn English,
let along a foreign language. This was a downscale Detroit suburb in the
1970s.

On the plus side, girls were required in junior high to take two
semesters
of typing. That was the most useful thing I learned in my entire
education.

Spend enough time in a.h.r and you might develop a grasp of the English
