Default OT How to see only entire cars on Ebay motors? Not parts or accessories.

I want a certain make and model within a range of years, and I get
thousands of accessories and parts, when all I want to see is complete
cars, you know, that I can drive. How do I see only cars?

I also want the car to be of a certain color but even though I know
there are two cars listed now of that color adding the color just gave
little trim accessories. Is there any way to search on cars of a
particular color if the seller didn't mention color in the title, which
they seem never to do?

(even though another search word is convertible, which I thought would
limit the search to complete cars, there are 1000's of parts that fit
convertibles, so it didn't help.)

At the top left eBay usually has categories that you can select after doing the search to refine the search to only that category. You can also use a filter which is on the search results page too select only cars and trucks, not parts.

That works for some things. But what they should have is a check box on every item where the seller can check off that it's a complete item. I've had your problem with many things too, where you want a complete item, say Bose headphones and you get search results that includes everything from empty boxes, to manuals, to pieces. That I don't know of a way to fix. But you can separate cars from car parts, because they have separate categories.

try listing from highest price to lowest - it will get rid of the
licence bolts etc, but YOU will likely still need to get down a few
pages to find one in your price range.

Darn, I looked for that too, but couldn't find it even though now it's
right in front of me and I bet it was then too.

Well, I tried it for Lebaron 95 and it returned 114,000 items.

including a reman half axle for 9800 dollars, engine blocks for 2400,
disk brake hydraulic hose front and rear for 2200.

So after looking again at the list of 3 lebarons for sale
I tried Lebaron 88 since I know there is one

And it found 77,000 results, "76,891 parts found for lebaron 89" but
not the car!!!!! It drops to 4900 when I check the Used box.

It knew what I meant becauase it found "CV Axle Assembly
Front-Left/Right USA Ind AX-6529 Reman (Fits: 1989 LeBaron)
$9,843.24"

They have engines and transmissions and crossmember, but....

Even though the car I expected to find in the list has a starting bid at
1,750.00 but [ 0 bids ] and a buy it now price of 3900 and I looked
from the greatest, more than 39000 to way below 1750. But it wasn't
there.

It drops to 4900 when I check the Used box, but a whole car is still not
in the list.

I'm glad I learned this lesson now.

I think I found at least one car this way, but I'm not sure anyore. M
most of the cars I found were when one I was watching was ending and
they sent me an email telling me that, with pictures of several like it.

I'm lucky things turned out as well as they did. The car is in
Philly, a little over an hour by train. So it better work because I
plan to drive it home. I havent' seeen it in person but the guy has
99.5% posiitve, maybe 123 positive in the last year, one neutral and one
negative.

Try this link:
http://www.ebay.com/sch/Cars-Trucks/6001/i.html

That sure seems to work. I wonder what sch means.

And what does 6001 mean?

But it looks like you've got the winning ticket.

But how did you find this?. Cars and Trucks is not one of the
categories when you're in regular ebay. Ebay Motors is, but if you see
my answer to Clare, that doesn't work.

And what else is strange is... I have, in Firefox, ebay as one of 17
possible search engines, and that's how I started out several days ago.
It defaulted to All categories so I switched to Ebay motors. And
that's when I got all the parts etc.

So just now after I tried the link above I put Lebaron** in the Firefox
search field, and it brought up the same sort of page, only whole cars
(only 3 of them.) It put Lebaron in the category box to the right
of the search box.

So I tried a word that was not the model of a car. I put that in the
Firefox search box. And ebay put it in the ebay search box. and put All
Categories in the category box. My model is both a model of a car
and it's used elswhere a lot too, maybe that's it, of maybe I ruined it
by looking putting the model in the search field after an ebay page was
showing, or by putting in the year or color I wanted.

BTW, I asked on the Ebay motors board almost 3 hours ago and havent'
gotten one answer yet, but I've gotten 3 here after asking 30 minutes
later.

**I don't want, didn't want a lebaron, but I'm afraid to put in the car
I did want, since I might find one better than the one I bought less
than 2 hours ago.

I looked at those and the only one that helped was Used. I guess I
could have tried price, but one of the cars I was insterested in started
at $200. It went for almost 2000. and Iwoudl have gone to 5000 or more
so that leaves a pretty big price range.

You can also use a filter which is on the search results page too select only cars and trucks, not parts.

I looked at filtering and didn't see that, but as my reply to Clare
shows, I didn't see a lot of what I looked at. Maybe it was there.

I think on some occasioms you might have found Retired's page and I
don't know why I didnt.

1 Go to Ebay

2. Click on "Shop by Catagory" by the ebay name

3. Select "Cars & Trucks"

The closest thing is eBay Motors, which sounds like it would be the
right thing, but not only does it have 1000's of parts and accessories,
it doesn't have cars!!

By golly you're right, but I have complaints about this.
A) the words Shop by Category are all in black and don't look like a
button.

But the words remind you that there are categories. Then B follows.

B) If you use the "one click seach engine" that Firefox provides for
Ebay, and enter text in the search field and click on the ebay icon, it
defaults to All Categories. Then if you click on the down arrow at the
right end of the Category box, in addition to All Categories it lists 35
sub-categories. IMO it's reasonable to assume that those are all the
categories, and Cars and Trucks is not there.

(There's no easy way for me to list them. The last category is
"everything else" but when I chose that and seached on Lebaron, it only
found one thing, a "Lincoln 1932 Lebaron V-12 Jim Deneen 9 1/4" Fine
Collector Plate 1989 C-331", no cars or parts)

C) When I do Bs with lebaron it brings up two cars for sale,
lebarons, and nothing else,

But if I put in lebaron red it finds 5000 things, and I'll bet
none of them are cars, and in the left column it has
Categories
All
Ebay motors
Car Covers
Graphics
Decalls..... etc.

However if I put in the model I wanted and eventually bought, even
without any other word, the result is like for Lebaron red except
it finds 1.6 million things. Because Lebaron has little or no other
use except as the model of a car, but other model names are not like
that, like (Chevy) Nova and others.

It does, I'll admit, then have a section called "Find your car or truck"
where you can enter make, model, and range of years, but I never saw
that, probably because I seached on the model and year or color

IOW, it has special rules and doesn't work like most searches.

D) if you just put a blank space in the search box and do as in B
above,at least at the moment it brings up a list headlined MOTORS with
these items
"Parts & Accessories
ATV Parts - Parts & Accessories
Apparel & Merchandise - Parts & Accessories
Automotive Tools & Supplies - Parts & Accessories
Aviation Parts & Accessories - Parts & Accessories
Boat Parts - Parts & Accessories
Car Electronics - Parts & Accessories
Cart & Truck Parts & Accessories - Parts & Accessories
Manuals & Literature - Parts & Accessories
Motorcycle Parts - Parts & Accessories
Other Parts - Parts & Accessories
Other Vehicle Parts - Parts & Accessories
Performance & Racing Parts - Parts & Accessories
Personal Watercraft Parts - Parts & Accessories
RV, Trailer & Camper Parts - Parts & Accessories
Salvage Parts Cars - Parts & Accessories
Scooter Parts
Services & Installation - Parts & Accessories
Snowmobile Parts - Parts & Accessories
Vintage Car & Truck Parts - Parts & Accessories
Wholesale Lots"

Admittedly, none of them are whole cars, but I never saw that list in
that format before, only a column to the left of the tierms for sale,
and when I saw Ebay Motors, and it was the only car-related category of
the 35 sub categories, I think it was reasonable to think it would
include cars. I've heard people talk about ebay motors and if they
weren't talking about finding cars, I couldn't tell.

You're right. No doubt about it. But I'm sure I'm not the only one who
gets tripped up by this.

Hey Clare, I put in Rangers as an exercise. You were right when you said
they keep their value!

I've had mine for 5 years, and there is NO WAY I'd sell it for what I
paid for it -or what I have in it including all improvements and
repairs --
