I heard about that. As I get older I collect more doctors, I've got
three now and am about to get another. Doesn't bode well for me.

OTOH I don't have any gerbils, so I got *that* going for me.

What is about self protection and defending your own that scares you?

Are you too much of a coward to defend yourself and family and think
someone else will do it for you?

You bring your pitchfork to the fight...

The FBI says there were 8,124 gun murders in 2014, the last year with

+ 1 The guy that puts that data together, Guy Smith is actually a
Libertarian.

Here are some other numbers.

"NEW YORK – More than 50,000 Americans died from drug overdoses last
year, the most ever.

The disastrous tally has been pushed to new heights by soaring abuse
of heroin and prescription painkillers, a class of drugs known as
opioids.

Heroin deaths rose 23 percent in one year, to 12,989, slightly higher
than the number of gun homicides, according to government data
released Thursday.

http://www.foxnews.com/health/2016/12/09/grim-tally-soars-more-than-50k-overdose-deaths-in-us.html

And.

CHICAGO – Accidental overdoses aren't the only deadly risk from using
power prescription painkillers. A new study says the drugs may also
contribute to heart-related deaths and other fatalities.

The study involved patients given prescription medicines for chronic
pain, including persistent backaches and arthritis. Outcomes for
patients on other types of painkillers were compared with those on
long-acting opioids including controlled-release oxycodone, methadone
and fentanyl skin patches.

You should know where 12,000 comes from. The FBI says "firearms, all
types, is more like 8,200 (8,454 in 2013, 8,124 in 2014)
The total number of homicides was 12,253 in 2013 and 11,961 in 2014.
That is all weapons, including around 1500 stabbings around 700 bare
hand beatings and a handful of other methods.
https://ucr.fbi.gov/crime-in-the-u.s/2014/crime-in-the-u.s.-2014/tables/expanded-homicide-data/expanded_homicide_data_table_8_murder_victims_by_w eapon_2010-2014.xls

I don't mind people saying we have too many murders but they don't
need to lie about it. They should also point out how many are gang
related.

Gun "homicides" also include suicide. If a person is determined and
has made up their mind, you can't stop them.

Not in the "12,000" number. Suicide is how they get up to 34,000 or
whatever other BS number you see.

Hammers, clubs, bats, knives, etc., are used more often than guns to
commit murder.

Not really. I gave you the numbers.

What some don't get is killing a person is legal and authorized by
law.

You are correct that does get lumped into "homicides" but the number
for 2014 was 444 (justifiable homicide)

Absolutely. The NCIS has done over 250,000,000 gun checks since 1998
and 24,000,000 this year

If you are talking about defense of self or others it is not legal per
se, but it is a legal defense in a court of law. If it were truly
legal, they couldn't arrest you for it. Even the police can be tried in
a court of law.

Muggles once said a similar thing about resisting arrest. It is not
legal to do so, but if you do do so, there are legal defenses which can
be successfully applied if the circumstances are right.

Use of deadly force is written into laws, justified homicide also.
Authorized for police and civilians. I'm talking about a legal killin'
