I did, one time. The recruiter put me on a
scale and said I had to lose ### pounds to
be allowed to enlist. And then I'd be down
to ### pounds by end of basic. We thanked
each other, and I went to lunch.

If the USA is ever invaded, you can find me
hiding under the bed. Cheering on the active
duty troops who are defending me.

Many people haven't.

"For nearly two generations, no American has been obligated to join up,
and few do. Less than 0.5 percent of the population serves in the armed
forces, compared with more than 12 percent during World War II."

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/05/27/op...part.html?_r=0

The sad thing is that so many people sit on their asses and complain
about the way the world is going to hell in a handbasket and yet do
nothing about it. I have the feeling that the draft will need to be put
back in effect in order to get our brave military volunteers some
needed backup.

Actually, I did put a tape in the VHS and
record it. My TV reception is terrible,
tried to find someone with a better signal
to record for me. I knew full well this was
a day that would be remembered in history
for a lot of years.

It was a couple hundred miles from me, so I
didn't feel the need to cower, quite that
point. I did go out and gas up the truck, just
in case. And might have filled some more water
containers.

Military recruitment is based on supply and demand, like any occupation.
A liberal says "well, we need to pass some laws and have government
compel the people to do what we want, a draft would be a good way to
exercise government force over the people." A conservative such as my
self would look at the reasons for declining enlistment, and try to do
some thing about it. Perhaps the pay scale is too low. Perhaps there is
no pride in the corps. And perhaps our over regulated troops can't do
what they are paid to do (kill the *******s before they kill you).
Lighten up on the rules of engagement, let the troops do what they are
trained to do.

The draft was the best thing that happened to many young men. They went
in the Army as juvenile ssholes and came out as mature gentlemen. If
not needed for military, put them into the same training for discipline
then Peace Corps or similar. They got to see there is more to the world
than their street corner.

My mistake again. Here I was thinking that conservatives wanted to keep
the Constitution as it is and not undermine its tenets. What, exactly,
are they 'conserving' if not the Constitution?

Their own privileges, including the unfair ones?

Military recruitment is based on supply and demand, like any occupation. A
liberal says "well, we need to pass some laws and have government compel
the people to do what we want, a draft would be a good way to exercise
government force over the people." A conservative such as my self would
look at the reasons for declining enlistment, and try to do some thing
about it. Perhaps the pay scale is too low. Perhaps there is no pride in
the corps. And perhaps our over regulated troops can't do what they are
paid to do (kill the *******s before they kill you). Lighten up on the
rules of engagement, let the troops do what they are trained to do.

A conservative such as yourself, is actually saying , let others serve.

Easy to suggest actions when it isn't you on the front line of the
battlefield. Let others do your dirty work.
Conservatives seem to always have excuses and rarely take responsibility for
their actions when their actions, or inactions,do not turn out well.

Like I stated previously, "Conservatives seem to always have excuses and

Neither Party is blameless and only a fool would think so.

Some how, fighting terrorism and the spread of
radical islam doesn't strike me as unjust and
illogical. Of course, it's easy to say when one
is in the USA, and not seeing first hand the
terror victims. That changed on 9/11 and in Boston
when the Boston Marathon bombing occured on US
soil.

My experience is that conservatives are the ones
who do take responsibility, and try to do better.

The lack of responsibility has been from the left,
from what I see.

Perhaps you could give one logical reason why Iraq was picked for the 'war'
on terrorism because of 911.
The only one I could come up with was that Sadam threatened W's father.
Stupid war that costs us way too many lives and it was not even with the
right Country.
Ineffective and an ignorant and arrogant act by our Country

Jeez, how long is the left going to blame Bush for all the problems in
this country? How much money, how many jobs, and how many still
unemployed has this administration cost this country. Lives ruined,
businesses shut down, people out of work for years. So, where's the
accountability?

Liberals/progressives/democrats are not accountable
and have different rules.
All those things you mentioned are a Resume Enhancement
for them.

Yes, much longer than 8 yrs, a hell of a lot longer than Bush and Cheney
and the Right Wingers predicted how long the Iraq War would take.
Bush lit the match, and let it 'burn' and 'burn' and 'burn'.
Even during the 2008 election process, it was strongly asked, why would
anybody want to be the President since the Economy is tanking SO badly.
Course, right wingers would have still been blaming Clinton (many yrs
more than the 8 you mentioned) if Mc Cain had been elected.
Like I said before, the right wing almost never takes responsibility for
its actions, if they don't turn out well.

Have more right wingers or left wingers have served in the military in
the last 20 yrs?
Put your head back in the 'sand'.

The unemployment rate
http://www.shadowstats.com/alternate...loyment-charts
Shot up with the Oh Bomb Us style of running the country.

Why would right wingers serve in a liberal military, run by
liberals? From what I've heard of "rules of (not) engagement"
it's pretty much suicide to go into combat zones. With the
rules and policies stacked against you so severely.

Typical right wing answer. We want our rights and will start wars, but 'our'
kind will not serve in the military on the front lines.
It is suicide to go into combat zones, so let others do that, not us.

Stormin Mormon brought next idea :

The U-6 didn't support my statement, so
I went fishing.

I've found the last couple years to be
really economic disaster. When boots on
the ground is seeing a recession, it's
hard to believe the number crunchers who
tell me that things are delightful.

I heard the joke as "two Brazillian..."

Well, that's clearly twice as many then. Even in common core math.
