Per rbowman:
Sometimes I wonder what happened to American creativity when so many movies and TV series are either remakes of US or European films. Did you see the Swedish version of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo ? I saw the Swedish version first, then read the book in English, and then watched the American version in English. The American version was ok.... but only "Ok"... no comparison to the Swedish version. Noomie Rapace *made* the Swedish version - and she speaks perfect, unaccented English.... so I had to wonder why they did not get her for the American version..... but even with her in the lead role, the American version would not have stood up to the Swedish.... It just lacked the intricacies and nuances that the Swedish version had. -- Pete Cresswell |

Wookiee, had to be Wookiee... You mean "Wookiee" are a group of people ? I know there are places called "Wookey Hole" and "Wookey Hole Caves" near Wells, but did not know that "Wookiee" or "Wookey" were a group of people. -- Pete Cresswell |

I've never seen the American version. I wonder if 'The Girl in the Spider's Web' will make it to a movie. I've read mixed reviews but I think there is some discontent when Lagercrantz stepped in after Larsson died. I've only seen some of the Wallander episodes in Swedish too, not the British remakes, and read a couple of Mankell's book. It's somehow apropos that the 'Faceless Killers' in 1991 theme revolve around immigration and its discontents. |

Not a 'Star Wars' fan I take it? I've only seen a couple of them but that's enough to know Chewbacca is a Wookiie from the planet Kashyyyk. I think Wookey Hole probably was there first. |

"Nope, not a thing...", then he took a look in there and this "Oh **** !" expression crossed his face... and I think he knew he could be in trouble over this one..... sent me to a specialist who took a little suction tube and un-stuck the eardrum from the bones and tacked it back in place. But I do not think I lost any hearing from that one.... because it would have shown up on tests as different results for each ear. A side "benefit" of the chain saw experience was constant very high pitched tones in both ears...... All-in-all, I'll take the deafness because before that I was constantly tormented by sounds that were above the pitch that most people can hear. Had to quit a perfectly good management trainee job at the local bank because I could hear the ultrasonic emitters for the security system and they practically blew my brains out.... wow. I've never heard of that kind of problem before. -- Maggie |

I can still hear them and if the AC is off, the door closed and no one in this wing is screaming, I can hear ticking from the battery operated wall clock that's 15 feet away from me. I've always avoided loud noise even though as a young man chasing girls, I attended rock concerts. When I got older I would wear hearing protection when I was doing service work in bars and clubs where there was very loud music coming from the sound system. When it's very quiet, I hear the slight ringing in my ears from mild tinnitus but I can still hear a cockroach skittering around in the crumpled paper inside a trashcan. I can also hear the little critter scream when the bug spray hits it. ヽ(€¢€¿€¢)ノ [8~{} Uncle Deaf Monster |

Was wondering about heat required to melt ice and find it is 80 cal/g. That is why, once it is formed, it sticks around for a while even when surrounding air is warmer. Heat of vaporization is 540 cal/g. DIY'ers should have some concept of this when it comes to plumbing and heating. For example there are humidifiers sold that use hot water claiming it vaporizes easier. Yes, but when you look at the heat requirements to convert from liquid to gas, its minor. |
