Dont they sharpen axes at the factory anymore?
I bought an inexpensive axe (12" hatchet) at Menards for $12.99. Made by
Yardworks. I mainly bought it for cutting roots on a digging job I'm doing. I have a costly axe for actually cutting trees and similar uses, and I dont want to dull that one on roots. This one I just bought dont seem to bad for the price, has a fiberglass handle with a rubber grip, but you'd think they would sharpen it. It came with a piece of rubbery clear protective coating over the blade, which appears to have been dipped in this stuff. Anyhow, I removed that protective coating and it's not even close to being sharp. Sure, I can sharpen it, but that's not a job I enjoy doing. It dont need to be a precise sharpening job for what I intend to use it for, but the way I bought it, I doubt it will cut much of anything. |

Imagine a big rig full of sharp hatchets being involved in an accident or an Islamic wacko in a store going bonkers and deciding to cut a customer's head off. o_O [8~{} Uncle Wacko Monster |

I've looked everywhere and can't find them anymore. Couple decades ago, every hardware store sold them. I never used one for ice, but they are very handy for 100 other uses. I'm talking about the cheap ones with a wooden handle, not the fancy ones for the ice bucket. I'm thinking in the new America all the wusses won't sell them because of some notion that they are a deadly weapon. |

We bought a hatchet on vacation to chop up some firewood and it was like yours, not sharp at all. I ended up putting a little bit of an edge on it using the curb in the parking lot and honing it on a parking stop. How'd that work? I'd have thought of Harbor Freight, buy a flat file for $2.79 or so. -- .. Christopher A. Young learn more about Jesus .. www.lds.org .. .. |

I remember as a kid my father would go to the ice place and get a block when we had family picnics, fishing trips etc. No block ice, no need for ice picks (aside from those other uses) |

Google "ice pick." Plenty for sale. |

Going to a real ice house was fun as a kid. |

East side, It was an old gas station that became a tackle shop (relatively famous) for fishermen headed to Pine Island. It may be gone now, I was just curious. North of the old Edison bridge. |

I have been here over 30 years and I bet I have not been up there more than 10-12 times, not at all in the last 20. There are a few places up there that fit that description tho. The one I am thinking of was the Marine Trading Post the last time I was up there and they had lots of new and used boat stuff. I think they had bait and dry ice wouldn't surprise me. Dry Ice at Publix showed up after Wilma and they still sell it. It is in a little free standing "ice cream freezer" looking thing in the frozen food area, We haven't had a hurricane since but people must be buying it for something. |

Been a few years since I bought an axe and hatchet at Harbor Freight. Seems they were sharp. Nice German head with US made wood handle each. Greg |

Yikes. Snap ring pliers were early on my list of things I bought although small long nose pliers work on big ones. |
