Seriously:

Here's an excellent way to buy a used car, but it only works if you're wanting to buy a used car from a garage, used car lot or auto dealership; not in a private sale as you might by searching newspaper classified ads.

1. Visit several garages, used car lots or auto dealerships and pick out a vehicle that meets your needs at each one of them. Visit several times and speak to the same salesman each time so that they become convinced that you're interested in buying the car. Take note of something unique about each vehicle that only the previous owner would know; like it's approximate mileage; any obvious damage on the interior or exterior, whether or not it has a common feature like an interior trunk release, where it's located and how to use it, etc.

2. Tell the salesman at each place that you are interested in buying that vehicle, but that you want to talk to the previous owner about the condition of the vehicle before you buy it. Ask the salesman to provide you with the name and phone number of the previous owner. If they tell you that privacy laws prevent them from giving out that information, they it's just an excuse. They would realize there are plenty of ways around that problem. They could phone the previous owner to get their permission to give out that info, or they could give your name and phone number to the previous owner so they could phone you. They will have that information because the police might need it if it turns out the car was involved in a crime of some sort.

3. Phone each of the previous owners and confirm they are the previous owner by their knowledge of the car. Find out how that vehicle was for them while they owned it and why they sold it.

In this case, the used car salesman has nothing to lose by giving you the previous owner's name and phone number because he knows you won't buy the vehicle if he doesn't, and there's a chance you will if he does.

And, the previous owner has no reason to lie to you about their experiences with the car since it's no longer theirs.

At least by doing it that way, you stand a much better chance of avoiding a lemon. I have bought several cars this way, and every time the salesmen all said that they couldn't give me the previous owner's name and phone number, but they always did in the end. And, surprisingly, every time I got a name and phone number, I could tell it was the real previous owner. No salesman ever tried to trick me by referring be to a bogus previous owner to sing me the praises of that car. I guess they realized that if I suspected that's was what was going on, they'd lose all chance of selling the car.

I told one of my baby girlfriends who I've known since she was a little
girl, she Emailed me a picture of her two daughters a while back, that
women have a switch inside their heads called "The Crazy Switch". My
little girlfriend was 23 at the time and I explained to her that around
age 30-35 the Crazy Switch flips on and a woman goes completely bonkers.
Then around age 50, the switch comes loose and starts flopping around
and the woman either turns into Mother Teresa or Hilliary Clinton. She
replied "I think I've seen that in my mother. Oh no, I've only got seven
years left!" My baby girlfriend is about to turn 30, I'll keep you
posted. ^_^
