activated carbon filters will remove a lot of chemicals, but they are
not microbiologically safe. IOW they don't filter out protozoa and
such. So I have 3 in-line filters.

1st is sediment removal (very inexpensive)
2nd is activated carbon (about $20/cartridge)
3rd is chemical removal (off the wall expensive)

Nobody at this residence drinks untreated tap water. Not even my
birds, dogs and cats.

Chemical removal is easiest done with selective distillation being very
careful to allow volatiles to boil off before capturing water vapor. If
very nasty repeat the process a few times.

Better yet, relocate.

In australia, we have had a dual filter model from clearwater for over a
decade and they offered a 10 year upgrade. too late, I relised that I
could now buy filters for it at a particular hardware chain and the new
model was available no where else.

Plumbing tade shops sell another brand. So I guess the key is to get one
available from various outlets, unless that all stick ridgidly to a set
price.

will just turn it all off.

your filter will have nothing to filter

water well can be very valuable, for washing cars, watering lawns,
running toilets etc, even if you dont use it for drinking normally

for bulk of water use, still use city water for drinking and bathing
