Default HGTV

I've been watching a bit of this lately. It always surprises me how
inexpensively they are able to renovate.

Is this because it's may be cheaper to work through a contractor (this
is an honest question since I've never worked with one), they are full
of it, or some other reason?

TIA,
bonnie
