How hot do you need your two simultaneous showers? I
doubt you shower at over 110F.

I went through this analysis, and had a large cost of installation
on the Rinnai units. I would have had to replace over 300 feet of 1/2
inch gas pipe with 3/4 inch line, and paid the gas utility to replace my
meter. Also, my electric water heaters didn't have any roof venting,
but it would be required with the gas heaters. All together this all
would cost about $3,000 plus the heaters. I still have electric water
heaters (2), but they are now on a time of day clocks, restricting their
operation to off-peak power hours.

If I were building a new home I would use the Rinnai gas heaters as a
backup to solar domestic water heating.

I love blanket retarded statements. They amuse me. I researched the Rinnai units to death.
Number one, the life expectancy of a Rinnai considering the water not being to hard
is about 20 years +. Number 2 the 2520 conitnum can run up to 2 showers and a third point of use
without any problem as long as the incoming water temp is not to low, I know because I have one.
Even if it the water temp is low they put out a constant temperature. They do this by reducing the flow.
You don't need parts for them because they don't break down often.
That said I have 2 parts suppliers near me. Of course it depends on where you live.
People that complain about them not putting out enough usually undersized the unit
Or had it installed without checking gas pressure and setting it properly.
I have 7 people in my house and I have the smaller 5.2 gallons per minute at 60 Degree rise
and it has no trouble keeping up. If mineral builds up in them the Rinnai has a lime sensor.
It will display an error code and tell you it's time to have it flushed. If you do this it's not a problem.
Tank heaters don't give you that warning. They burst and flood your room.
Most people I know that bought the proper size unit love them and would never switch back.
They take up little space and provide hot water continuously.
Like anything else results will vary according to hook up and other factors such as usage.

Now how in the hell is a unit according to you only suitable for an apartment when I have one supplying
a family of 7? My tank would never do that. You had to shut off the water and wait 25 minutes for recovery.
I can now fill the tub in one shot without waiting. The proper size unit will run 3 showers with no problem
and that's at 120F with a 70 degree rise. Even at an 80 degree rise the Rinnia 2532 can deliver 6 gallons a minute.
That's enough for almost 4 showers you fool. Please do your research before you make blanket statments.

Now because I do my research and am unbiased I will tell anyone that they are not nessacarly
an alternative to replacing a tank heater. The moral once again is do your homework to make sure it's for you.
There is no magic involved or deception on Rinnai's part. They provide flow curves and a temperature rise
chart. Measure your incoming water temp at it's coldest ,properly size, install it correctly and the unit and it will deliver what it says.
If not then you screwed up. Let me add that I am on a well system and the water stays around 50 in winter and a little higher in summer.
I can't stress enough about doing your homework and not listening to uninformed people on google.

Perhaps because you replied to someone (Jim Baber) that had originally
posted in HTML? It is quite a pain to reply to those that use HTML as many
facets of newsreaders get messed up. For example, the common practice of
indenting previous posters with a '' or some character to help separate out
each persons writing often quites and gets muddled when replying to HTML
posters.

Quite a pain.

If you're using OE (as I am), I only 'see' the plain text in Jim Baber's
post too. But the little icon in the upper corner shows an attachment, and
that is the HTML version.

So to recognize when someone has posted in HTML, I look for the attachement
icon (paperclip in OE). I don't open such attachments (I'm paranoid about
virii), but it tells me there is some HTML related.

Even today, when I go back and highlight Jim's message, and your first
reply, they show this 'attachment' icon and that there is some xxx.HTM file
attached.

The last post to the Fidonet newsletter was on 1-13-03...

Got a few BBS nodes running around...trick is finding them. Most of the old
ones are long gone and shut down about the same time that the Fidonet
newsletter died. Sites still up, but good luck finding much past 03.

CFN, DFN and the others that link to a few nodes are up and running, and
most of the old MUSE and MUCKs are still around someplace. WindsMARE was
being ran from a buddy of mines server in Cleveland for a long time with
permission from MIT. Barry Kort was allowing some of the code to be ran from
Devs system...not all, but some, and micro still exists, with Barry running
it.

NOI and I used to kill hours on microMUSE, but when things got out of hand
on there, Barry changed the format and it more or less died. Ill still
telnet in from time to time to talk to him, and see whats going on
personally in his life, but other than that...nada.

Oh...one more thought..
We used to post real frequently from a BBS called "The Whale Zoo", Lynne
Edel (Miller) used to run it out of her home in Greensboro. Impressive setup
she had at the time..A C-64, 128, and several Amigas running it.
HAL, C-net64, Atredes, Skyline..Skyterm..Paragon...all spoken there.
Murder Motel...wow...yea..its been a while. That game that EVERYONE knew on
a BBS was developed by a guy from the Magic Foam BBS up the road...Steven
White IIRC, and another guy Sean something....the three got together and
worked on the module loads...most of it thought up at some REALLY wild damn
parties she threw..

Default Which is more economical - electric or natural gas water heater?

Yes, I am finding this out.
Tell me please.

Do they have any pumps inside?
Heat exhangers
Hot water heating loop?
Can the set temperature be controlled from a millivolt
or milliamp input...say from a thermostat controller?
I take it they do not suffer from thermal shock from
incoming chill?
Is the vent kit just a dual walled pipe for venting?
What is the aprox. delay in hot water need
recognition, where the unit "kicks in"?

Thanx

I built my modom inside the C-64 keyboard, and used a software TNC with
Digipeat/BBS/Nodes. At that point, Fido was a dogs name.

My earmuff modem was hooked to a homemade modem circuit
running off a 6800D2 kit with hex keypad into a
Heathkit terminal. 2K or ram memory was a pipe dream
for me.

I built my modem with an XR2206/XR2211 chip set on a pair of 2inch sq
experimenter boards....the whole thing cost less than $5 to build... it ran
off the internal power of the computer. A couple of years later I upgraded
and built a modem with an AMD-7910 chip.

I did figure out that you can call the manufacturer and tell them you want
to experiment with XX chip or chipset, and they will send you some in the
mail for free :-)
