I'm considering a new front load washing machine for the second floor
of a new addition. Very solid wooden floors in the space concerned, directly adjacent to the bedroom. While I find lower water and energy consumption very attractive about this type of washer, I have read and heard many complaints about how much noise and vibration they make during their spin cycle. I am very sensitive to noise. Can those who own front load washers please comment on this? Thank you very much. |

The only thing I have noticed that it is a bit easier to get a front loader out of balance than a top loader, and when out of balance, they do make noise and vibrate. Both machines that I have had recognized this situation and spun down fairly quickly. -john- -- ================================================== ==================== John A. What do you mean by this? Not a great quality wash?
Overall, it's a *ahem* wash. Best Regards, -- Todd H. http://toddh.net/ |

Cleaning wise, and overall satisfaction wise, I'm remarkably satisfied with my front loader. They really do seem to clean well. Not all are as thrifty on water as promised according to consumer reports analysis, so if that's important to ya (as I feel it should be), do compare the ratings. It's damned near entertaining to watch it go (something controlled by a microcontroller program vs ye ole analog timer still hasn't lost its novelty to me), and it really does seem to clean better. But they are buttloads more expensive. If there weren't a woman involved, I'd likely have gotten another set of top loaders. But, now that I have em, I really do like em. Now the a**-rapin-ist thing about the front load washers though, is the money they get for the pedestals that put them at a convenient height.... Oy. Oh, one final thing about hte noise -- you can dictate the top spin speed which may be useful if you wash when you go to bed. But the down side is that slower spin means more water in the laundry which means more time and energy spent with the clothes in the dryer.... Best Regards, -- Todd H. http://toddh.net/ |

I don't plan on getting a pedestal. I may, however, get a nice square,

![]() In that case, what is a sensational top load washer. By this I mean foremost, one that is well made and reliable, energy efficient and few bells and whistles. I'm leaning to Speed Queen, given its three year warranty. In that case, what is a sensational top load washer. In article .com,
says... I don't plan on getting a pedestal. I may, however, get a nice square, level piece of concrete. We have an LG front loader upstairs in our hundred-year-old house, whose floors are framed with 2x6es on 24" centers, a bit springy by modern standards. You can tell it's running in other rooms because of the vibrations in the floor, but it isn't at all noisy. We didn't get a pedestal, but I framed up a platform for it out of 2x4s and plywood, with storage underneath. -- is Joshua Putnam http://www.phred.org/~josh/ Braze your own bicycle frames. I have an upstairs laundry area with a Maytag Neptune (an early one with all the fixes done to it) and it doesn't shake anything off of any walls downstairs. I know the plural of 'anecdote' is not 'data' but I though I would just rebut your assertion that it shakes the house down. It doesn't. The spin cycle is louder than that of the equivalent toploader, but that's why our laundry area comes complete with a set of doors. -- Mit der Dummheit kämpfen Götter selbst vergebens. |

Hi,
I am also in the market for a front loading washer / dryer. I do see that noise is a big factor in these washers. Our laundry room is in the first floor over the basement. Does anyone have experience in the following? 1) Whirlpool Duet Washer WHW9200S & dryer GGW 9250S/9250P Seems to be reasonably priced for a 3.8 Cu.ft capacity in the washer ( $1000)and a 7 Cu.ft dryer. Dryer talks about reversible side swing door. Not sure if it can be installed to swing one way or the other. The washer door seems to swing to the left which may not be convenient in our laundry room. 2) Kenmore HE2T washer. How is the performance & noise on this washer? TIA for any help Rich wrote: " wrote in ups.com: suggest you buy from somewhere with a liberal return policy, as you are gonna have NO luck with one of those beasts on the second floor. When my maytag neptune winds up for a spin cycle it sounds like a jet
engine revving up. It can be heard throughout first floor and its in the basement. However it spins faster and gets more water out . I would choose front loader anyday On Feb 4, 1:56 pm, wrote: I'm considering a new front load washing machine for the second floor of a new addition. I saw two other washers on sale today
1) Kenmore Oasis HE (Front Loading) washer which seems quiter (and easily accessible) than the front loaders. 2) Kenmore HE 5t a new model which is expensive but seems to have more features than the older HE4t. Any opinions on these? Any pros and cons about top loader vs a front loader? Thanks R. Kannan wrote: Hi, I am also in the market for a front loading washer / dryer. Some people are adamant that they want them, but I'm not that excited about them and don't know that I'd get one when my present top loader goes. The big thing is they use less water & soap??? But, they seem to have a lot of noise / vibration and after looking at the Kenmore oasis HE top loaders, I am not so sure now :-( |

I notice that you can get a top loader with a lot more space than a side-loader (for about the same price.) I'm talking about the top-loaders with no agitator. |

Yes but the top loader without an agitator (such as Kenmore Oasis HE) is not apparently as efficient as the frontloader (such as Kenmore HE5). |

I don't feel there are any shortcomings in getting the clothes clean now, so that is not a big motivation for me. As I live in an area with ample water, I have no ecological motivation to use less water. There is a pumping cost (we have our own well) but I don't find that (whtever it is buried on the overall electric bill) a big motivation either. And I'm not concerned about the cost of soap yet. But if the clothes would last longer..... However, I'd want one that could still handle the blankets/comforters that now (barely) fit in the top loader.
