B&D electric Grill's plug gets too hot to touch
I have an old B&D electric Grill (10 years) that works fine, except
that the plug gets very hot in the 20-30mins of usage. So hot that I need to use a cloth to unplug it. This is a molded kind. Could this cause a fire? This seems to have started a few months ago. Can this wire and plug be replaced? Or just buy a new grill? Thanks. Mark Sabatini |

Does it unplug at both ends or is one end permanently wired into the grill? If unplugs at both ends, bring it to a hardware store and get a new one. If wired in, cut off 4-6 inches from the plug, and put a new plug on. -- Rich Greenberg Marietta, GA, USA richgr atsign panix.com + 1 770 321 6507 Eastern time. Mark Sabatini do you have old wiring in the structure? maybe that could cause it? i don't know; just wondering. |

B&D electric Grill's plug gets too hot to touch
This could be caused by a cheap outlet and/or cheap house wiring.
The plug for a space heater plugged into a worn cheap outlet on a 15 amp circuit with 14 gauge wiring will be "warm to the touch" after awhile. However the same space heater plugged into a new "commercial grade" 20 amp outlet on a 20 amp circuit wired with 12 gauge wire will be cold to the touch after hours of use! Old and cheap outlets make poor contact with the prongs of the plug, the heat is coming from the prong/outlet connection, not the plug itself. I would try replacing your outlet with a "commercial grade" outlet. These make better contact with the prongs of the plug. If the prongs of the plug are dirty, then that would make for a poor connection as well. In that case clean the prongs or replace the plug. |
