Sony DVP-S530D C:13:00 error
Over the past couple of years, I have read alot about this problem. I
have read about the class action suit against sony, ben morris's fix, all the complaints, etc. Last week I finally got fed up with mine and went and bought a new one. I bought a Sony DVP-NS775V (stayed with sony because I have a Sony visa card with about $400 worth of points to use up). I am disappointed with the picture quality and I think that my old 530d has a drastically better picture. I had the choice of exchanging my 530d for a refurbished one for $252.19: http://eservice.sony.com/webrma/web/...30D&exchRep=no Repair it for $133: http://eservice.sony.com/webrma/web/...on=forceRepair Or buy the DVP-NS775 for $116.99 at circuit city and getting that credited back to my credit card. I chose the third one but after seeing the picture quality of the 775, I am looking into repairing my 530d myself. Below are links to what may be replacement parts. I bought my 530d back in 2000 and spent $299 on it because I wanted a nice DVD player that I planned on using for 10 years or so. Other players at the time were available for less that $150, but I went ahead and spent the extra money because I thought I was getting a better quality player. I love everything about the 530d-picture, menus, look, sound, decoding, digitalout, hookups- except that I have to fight with the thing and sometimes skip entire chapters to make it through a movie. It will play some dvds flawlessly and won't play others that are brand new strait out of an unopened box. Specifically, what is the cause of the C:13:00(diry disc) error and the part number needed to replace? Is it the fuse that ben morris replaced? http://www.benmorris.net/DVD/ Is it the spidle motor that has a part cost of about $6? http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htfo...threadid=13687 http://www.electronix.com/catalog/de...sort/1a/page/1 Is it the optical pickup? Are these replacement pickups? http://www.electronix.com/catalog/pr...ducts_id/11145 http://www.electronix.com/catalog/pr...ducts_id/11146 Is there a part available at www.partstore.com or www.mcmelectronics.com? http://groups-beta.google.com/group/...2bfb64a9139155 Have a nice day, Brian |

Usually a bad pickup, which is sold as a complete assembly, the
A-6062-397-A. This model is not of the same affected series as the ones you're thinking of, which include the DVP-S360, and DVP-S560D, though the pickup is the same type. There were some resistor values in the 360's etc which tended to result in the pickups being overdriven and the coils shorting out. This does not apply to your DVP-S530D. Replacing the motor only is not an option for most people, even if you can get one. This mechanism is not designed for service, though a technician can sometimes sway a spindle motor from a scrapper. Problem is resetting the disc platter height, which is pretty critical. Weighing against repair in my opinion is that the 530D will not do CD-R's, except for "special" silver CD-R's. Also new models will do newer formats and often include JPG picture viewers. Mark Z. wrote in message oups.com... Over the past couple of years, I have read alot about this problem. So, most likely the optical reader needs to be replaced and the proper part is found he http://www.partstore.com/ProductDeta...uctType= PART http://mcm.newark.com/NewarkWebComme...U=32-18065&N=4 And these that are $27 will not work: http://www.electronix.com/catalog/pr...ducts_id/11146 http://www.electronix.com/catalog/pr...ducts_id/11145 Thanks, Brian |

I found this. Will the KHM-240aaa replace the KHM-220aaa and be an
updated laser that will read CD-r's? Apparently the KHM-220AAA is single lens/single laser diode and costs about $100 and the KHM-240aaa is a single lens/dual laser diode and costs $27. One person says it works as a replacement and another one says the the connector pins are different. http://www.audioasylum.com/scripts/t...hirez&m=181185 I found this mention of a KHM-220AAA for $14, but I think it is a foreign company. http://www.freelists.org/archives/te.../msg00462.html I also found a part KSS-220A for $51. http://www.electronix.com/catalog/pr...oducts_id/8444 I know the easiset thing to do would be sending the unit back to sony for the $133 repair, but I like tinkering with things myself and would probably go for the $27 routh if anyone knows if it works. They aren't interchangeable.
