Default When powering off with remote, TV goes to another channel.

I have this Masuda S25TXS ctv-8259 whitout the original remote;
I am trying to use a universal remote (auto search) which does make
all the controls respond except for the power on/off button: when I
power off it does click but goes to a spare channel(just snow) and
when I power on it clicks and returns to the channel I was viewing
(with sound and picture, it acts as if TV turns on from an already on
state).

Which one is most likely at fault? the universal remote signal code or
the standby function of the TV? Please help as I need some real
expertise here before I venture into purchasing another remote.

Thanks
Jim

Did you find that controller setting by scanning for the On/Off function,
and if so was there another which more closely matches the set? Sounds like
the settings almost, but not quite, match up. Look for another would be my
suggestion.

My guess is the TVs switching is faulty, but the only real way to tell
is to try another remote. Most dealers would allow you to buy and
bring back if not the solution, explain the circumstances.

Sounds like the tv has a bad/stuck power on relay inside of it.

Has nothing to do with the remote control you are trying to use.

Thanks for suggestions, I followed the standby back to an IC
(CTV322S)and tested components nearby but found nothing faulty; only
replaced a sus cap by using my trusty ESR meter.
However Frank is right about all other function on the remote do
respond when the TV is on a spare channel (presumably now in the off
state) but each one of them act like a swith because they make the TV
come on as normal.
I wonder where to narrow my search. The rely is obviously responding
so I will check further in that section.

Hold on here.

I saw the original post but I didn't get into it because I saw there were
responses.

IMO if this thing has digital tuning it either the EPROM, micro or the remote
itself.

Sorry if I'm off base here, I didn't read all the replies, but I thought I'd
throw this out there to see if it had been looked into after seeing the
"thread" still active.

Hello Franc and thanks for your input, I had another quick search for
faulty components and just as you said I found a shorted transistor. I
have run out of time but once I complete the repair I would like to
report back to all;
Jim
