Vibration caused by belts often comes up on this forum. I've replaced
crappy vee belts with link belts on my lighter machines. However, I've
also recently come up with another choice.

My drill press recently needed a new belt, the local hardware store had
only one belt in stock, it's green in color, and softer feeling than a
standard black belt. The green belt was the same price as a standard
version, much cheaper than a link belt. The machine runs noticeable
smoother with the green than with a standard black vee belt.

The only thing I can say is that it's a Gates product, I don't have the
original sleeve. The store employees don't know anything about it. Has
anyone else seen these? Are they still made?

Were up to four years ago, when I cut the old one for my lathe and put one
on. They were designated as "machinery" rather than "automotive," IIRC.
Logical for a farmers' Co-Op store. I would say that they're designed to
run under lower tension.

Yup, no luck. They may have been replaced with polyurethane belts.

Did you notice the same improvements over a typical belt?

May not have been fair, but I guess it all depends on what he's
suspending... Might explain some popularity with the wimmen-folk.

Actually, I can imagine what the front of the suspenders can attach to, but
I'm puzzled about the back...

Yep, no jump at startup or shudder at shut -down. Pretty much what the link
belt did for my tablesaw.

I've changed belts on a couple of my machines from V to Link. I have
noticed no appreciable difference.
I have a vibration issue with my floor drill at higher speeds but the
pulleys are the culprits in this case.

Based on your experience, I spray painted all my drive belts green. I don't
see any difference in performance. I went the next step and painted my
pants belt green also. My wife saw no difference in my performance either.

Am I missing a step
