Started at $1.50/hr and immediately got a raise to $1.60 because the university figured out that they, too, were subject to minimum wage rules. Haven't taken SS yet but soon. My boss says he wants me to come back 2 days a week, or some sort of part time after. |

My boss says he wants me to come back 2 days a week, or some sort of part time after. That happened to me only with stock options. I interviewed with a company and we established my start date. I arrived on that date, and two days later was told the company was sold. What a downer. However under the terms of the sale all issued stock options would be vested on the closing date. Mine were, so after a couple of weeks those options were vested and I could sell them any time I wanted. Since the old company's stocks increased I did well when I sold my options. |

I arrived on that date, and two days later was told the company was sold. What a downer. I really don't need the money but won't refuse it either. We'll see how it works out. This year, like a lot of companies, is a pretty bad year (it would have been without covid, IMO) but our fiscal new year is April 1. However under the terms of the sale all issued stock options would be vested on the closing date. Mine were, so after a couple of weeks those options were vested and I could sell them any time I wanted. Since the old company's stocks increased I did well when I sold my options. There is a silver lining. I was laid off in a downsizing at the end of '06. I already had my 30 years in so not only got the severance (6 months) but my pension (and insurance). It turned out that if I collected immediately or waited to 65, the payments were identical and I've been taking the handout for thirteen years now. I left with a smile. |

I don't know if you have reached your full retirement age (FRA) but if have, you can start receiving your SS benefits without any penalty for working. Of course, waiting until 70 YO is often the best, based on the 8% per year increase in benefits - assuming you'll reach your break even age, of course. |

I have but it's still taxed at the incremental rate and cuts the payment by 8% per year (or 3/4 % per month but like everything else in the government it doesn't add up). Of course, waiting until 70 YO is often the best, based on the 8% per year increase in benefits - assuming you'll reach your break even age, of course. Right. I'm 68 but REALLY don't want to work much longer. The only time I have to play is a few hours on Saturday. There are a lot of things I want to do. |
