I've been looking for something better since I've had two pairs snap within
the last 6 months. I did a little research (this topic is almost as
popular as wood questions here) and found several recommendations for the
Peltor brand. Two weeks later, I finally took delivery of both the H9A and
H10 models. The comfort of the H9a isn't too much better than the ones I
had from Lowes, but the H10 is quite comfortable. I only removed them once
while working in the shop.

For less than $20, they're well worth consideration, even if you're looking
at electronic ones that dampen loud noises.

I use Peltor Bullseye Shotgunner ear muffs. They're low-profile and
lightweight and I find them real comfortable. They also fold up into a
compact little bundle that keeps sawdust out of the ear cups and is easy to
toss into a tool bag if need be. I can even push them up onto my head for
awhile when no power tools are running and they're right there when I need
them. I have some big heavy-duty muffs made by Howard Leight, they're
practically armor-plated, but I don't find them as comfortable and they
don't fold up. IMO hearing protection that is especially convenient is more
likely to be used, and the Peltors answer that description.

I never liked the overear muffs - it's a comfort thing. I like the
foam plugs with a headband. Smaller, lighter, higher NRC. Some
people don't like things in their ears, but it doesn't take long to
get used to them and they hang around your neck when not in use. You
forget they're there until you need them.
