Anyone know of a good book or website that discusses the set-up and
use of compressed air in a woodshop? Bill Pentz hasn't done air too, has he?! I'm looking for info on what machine, dryer, filter, oiler etc... is necessary to run sanders, sprayers, vacuum presses, screw guns etc... Not a lot of multiple users doing continuous run jobs, but it needs to power say 3 orbitals continously at peak. Thanks. JP |

Air tools are measured by the amount of air they use in cfm. Check the numbers on the tools you plan to use and add them up. You can then match your machine to the purpose. If you really want you can spend some bucks on an air compressor but they are a necessity in many shops. One good site to shop and compare compressors is northern tool. Link: http://www.northerntool.com/ It looks like10 cfm will run any orbital sander, call it 30 cfm for three. The machine at this link would do it.: http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/w...9163_200329163 |

At a minimum you need a 5HP, 2 stage compressor with at least an 80 gal tank. 240V service and about $1,200 USD will get you started. Lew |

Running three orbital sanders at the same time is "a lot of multiple users"
for most small shops. From your comment you must not be equipping a typical home shop. You probably need to be looking into upper end compressors that will provide durability as well as capacity. 5HP, 2 Stage minimum with a bigger tank. Guessing you are in the $1,200 to $1,800 range for the compressor. RonB "Jay Pique" wrote in message oups.com...
