Default Solar install (almost) complete

Solar City finished the install today (minus two roof tiles). It's a
6.5KW 28 panel system.

Now waiting for APS (local power utility) to install a bi-directional
meter and give the go ahead to power up.

More to come after a few months usage...

You should have had the approval to connect before proceeding!

I have seen 100s of KW of PV panels that are not allowed to be grid
connected. The Power Authority doesn't want any more in that location due to
grid or load capacities. People spent big bucks to have them installed based
on the salespeople cons and they sit there useless.

Best of luck and hope it all works out for you on that one! 6.5kW could be
used in your home but you would not be set up for a battery system and
batteries cost more than grid power on an on-going basis.

Listen you moron - I did have approval before proceeding. I just need
the final inspection for turn on.

As well, the storage facility is the grid.

I also don't pay a penny until it's in service.

I can see you're really up on things...

If you're in a good sun location (I'm in the desert of AZ), you should
think about it. It can be as cheap as a zero down with a monthly lease
and should cost you no more than your current electricity bill.

Good. I wouldn't want to see it happen to somebody else.

Sorry about your bad attitude.Maybe you shouldn't post on public forums if
you have temper tantrums over concerns you ask for. Have you tried seeing

I may have some swampland I could sell you since you like to spend money
without research.

If you are doing it for the "green" of the planet, think again.
If you think you would ever break even on the LOI, think again.
If you are doing it for the classic US anxiety of Arabs owning your home,
that may be a different matter.

Judging by your childish response here I think the latter is the reason and
I still have swampland that is a good deal.

Nice job Doug. I've been pondering that very idea when it comes time
to replace our roof. I've been eyeing up those new shigles with the
panels built-in. Only thing I'm not certain of is how well it would do
here in Ohio. Let us know how it turns out for you.

Solar makes a lot of sense here in the Arizona desert where we get 300+
days a year of sunshine. I grew up in Washington State where solar
wouldn't be a very good option because of the 300 days of gloom.

Solar City did get the two roof tiles replaced. Solar City and APS (our
power utility) will be here Monday to put the system through its paces
and put it online.

Part of the system includes online internet monitoring that updates
every 15 minutes. Their website allows you to see almost real time
statistics.

I was thinking that I wouldn't be affected by daytime power outages, but
they explained that when the inverter senses a power loss on the grid,
it shuts down also - wouldn't want to try to power the whole grid or zap
a technician working on it. I suppose if there was an automatic
transfer switch or such to isolate the system...

Yep, grid tie systems are required to disconnect when the grid goes down. The
system you are alluding to is typically set up to charge a bank of batteries.
When the batteries are are fully charged, the system starts feeding power to
the grid. Transfers from grid to inverter power for your house can be
automatic, but usually this is only done to a few dedicated outlets/circuits
(think refridgerators) since it is unlikely a system would have the oomph to
power an entire house (should you have large electric loads like
ovens/heaters running at the time).

System approved and turned on this morning. Generating 4KW at 9:45am
and meter is running backwards :-) Will see how close to max of 6KW it
gets at noon.

Window grab attached for first full day of operation. It was cloudy
until about 9:30am. Each bar represents 1/2 hour of operation, so add
two adjacent bars to get KWh. Generated about 29 KWh which is more than
my average daily usage for November. Now if I could figure out how to
eliminate all the taxes, fees, delivery charges, etc....

Nice!

It would appear your altitude angle does not match the sun angle, perfectly,
at this time of year as your output at solar noon seems somewhat less than
the rating of your PV panels.

What is your PV altitude angle and your geographic latitude at?
