Dear all,

I'm in need of quite a bit of curly hard maple for a kitchen cabinet
project, and it's just not conveniently available where I live
(Sacramento area, CA), as far as I know. I'm contemplating an
experimental purchase from MapleLeaf Hardwoods, about which good things
have been said here in the past. Anybody have recent experience with
them that's worth sharing? (Google didn't provide anything more recent
than the late '90s.) Other recommendations also gratefully accepted.
Price *IS* an object, but reliability and honesty are paramount.

Jim -- I did. It was a bust (didn't turn up anything I didn't already
know about).

It's mighty discouraging sometimes to live in CA when most of the best
and most interesting woods have to be trucked in at great expense from
elsewhere.

lots of hardwoods. I think it is called Hughes Hardwoods, 11441 Sunrise Gold

Last time I was there 4-6 weeks ago they had lots of oak & walnut, both sheet
and solid goods. I think I remember that they also carried some maple.

Galban -- thanks. I know Hughes from their outlet in Stockton; will
have to check out their joint in Cordova. In Stockton they are hit or
miss, with some decent deals (by CA standards) on occasion.
Unfortunately, they've never had any figured maple when I've looked.

Heh. You're right -- there must be two of us... I've visited Higgins
and talked to the people in their office. They didn't *appear* to do a
great deal of business in figured wood, though they had a few boards of
birdseye maple on hand. Acres of plain hardwoods, of course. I didn't
consider them as a possible source for this project because I need more
than a few boards (of curly maple). Did I miss something? Is there
somebody on their staff who specializes in figured wood?
