Suggestion from rec.crafts.woodturning was to make 1/4" ply or
masonite/tempered board gauges, one for each jaw set - min and
max compression diameters for spigots/tenons and min and max
"fingers" for expansion in openings/holes. So I'm working on some
patterns that can be used to cut out those gauges. Am making
the "min. compression" diameter slightly LARGER than the actual
"min compression" to provide a little extra compression options
for small spigots/tenons at the lower limit and the max compr-
ession diamter a little SMALLER than the actual max compression
to make sure the spigot/tenon will fit - without the need for any
"beat the sucker into the jaws with a 2x4".

Will post the pattern images when I've finished them.


Or - you could use a pencil and ruler. Center's easy to find, so put your
point of origin there and go out the required for the mark you cut to. I
prefer to spin by hand for the marking.

Of course it doesn't involve templates or the thrill of making them ....
