Child profile in a candlestick
I have been searching like crazy and can not find a webpage that described
how to turn a child's profile in a candlestick. Any idea's out there? Dave -- Today's mighty oak is just yesterday's nut that held its ground. Mike Kehs has been making and experimenting with Inside/Outside turnings for about fifteen years. In a demonstration at our club a few months ago, he showed us how he made a head outline in one of the I/O turnings. I think his was a Santa Claus but it could be used for a child's head just as easily. It actually took two I/O turnings, one with the profile of the face and the other with the profile of the back of the head. Then parts were exchanged between the two turnings resulting in a profile. A very exacting process requiring both turnings made to the same scale and aligned the same on the blanks. It also helps to have Mike's artistic ability to be able to visualize the results. Hope this helps, Harry |

Only an idea, as I've not done one of these myself, but you could blow up a picture of the child in question, then align a contour gauge with the edge of the picture and tweak the pins until they match it, and use that as a turning guide. If you're really ambitous, you could add an extra step in there and transfer the contour from the gauge to a piece of hardboard, then cut and use that. |
