I had some wooden windows made up a couple of years ago and the glass
supplier fitted the DG units for free, he used glazing tape which was a
neoprene profile, flat one side with self adhesive coating and a ridged
profile on the outside. One length on the frame, one length on the bead, fit
glass, squish the beads down and nail in. As some of the windows were
on the ground floor I later remade the joint to the frame with security
glazing tape, which is 2mm or so foam with v sticky adhesive both sides
and glues the glass in the frame.

If you don't want the faff of that (it is v quick for a lot of windows) or can't
get the tape, I would use the kind of glazing sealant that comes in tubes
for caulking guns (screwfix do it) and apply a continuous bead to frame and
bead before assembly. I'd prefer it to putty as it remains flexible and will
gloop into corners more readily.

Wickes double glazing sealing tape. For some reason B&Q and others don't
seem to stock an equivalent.
