Doesn't the fact that they're even considering it make you glad that we
don't need to tolerate this nonsense any more?

You don't think our government is capable of producing nonsense of its own?

Of course, but then I refer you to my sig below.

When I saw how the European Union was developing, it was very obvious what they had in mind was not democratic.

Like the referendum scam you mean, were only 1/3rd of those allowed to
vote then (so nowhere near 1/3rd of the population, then or now),
voted to leave the EU versus the majority who didn't? Sounds more like
'mob rule' to me ... and how many PM's and other representatives of
the people have resigned over it all?

In Britain you vote for a government so the government has to listen to you,

Bwhahaha ... oh the naivety!

and if you don't like it you can change it.

Or not .... bless.

What sort of democracy is it where the government can only (just) stay
in power by forming a coalition with ministers on a different island
and have a PM that the electorate didn't actually vote for?

A government that spends £.5M of our money (towards £1M) advertising
the dying dairy industry, promoting something that's bad for your
health (let alone never designed to be consumed by us and many are
intolerant to).

You still haven't learned:

a) How UK democracy works
b) Why the EU isn't democratic
c) The similarities between the EU and its parent, the USSR

Of course - but we can vote them out - which is more than you can say
for Eurocrats.

With someone like Cummings running the UK? I take it you voted for him?

b) Why the EU isn't democratic

Very true, no house of lords consisting of clerics etc.

c) The similarities between the EU and its parent, the USSR

Now that does deserve to have 'claptrap snipped'. But thanks for
confirming you know even less about the USSR than our democracy. If that
is possible.

Can you vote out *our* civil servants? And they are the ones who draft
legislation.

Mob rule? You mean a minority should specify what we eat?

Which PM was that?

Then campaign against the advertising. I might even support you.

Of course we can't, so what we are actually talking about is the 5% of
actual changes that it would result by voting for *anyone*.

'The people' determine what we do on a day to day basis. The
government 'leak' an idea of what they have in mind and watch how we
react, too much pushback and they don't bother with it, knowing it
will be a fools errand to try to carry on. Well, that is dependant on
who has the deepest pockets and is the most persuasive (often with
their BS).

Like HS2. The 'carrot' (although a fairly small one) to the British
public is that you will get to your destination a few minutes earlier
(and rightly few are excited by that). One of the sticks is all the
habitat destruction it will cause, most of which few will know and so
care about (or care about even if they did know, they don't 'get' all
that). However, I understand it will allow more freight to be carried
(over the old lines parallel to that route?) and that could be a good
thing. Even if it turns out to be no major benefit to most people, it
provides a distraction and creates a few jobs (for foreign workers of
course).

Sorry, I think you missed snipping the last few lines of claptrap.
