How to repair a split in HDPE water butt?
I have a large butt (ooo errr missus!) with a split in the bottom (it
gets worse! ;-) ). Google has turned-up a few suggestions on how to tackle HDPE repairs but none seem to be certain. Has anyone here managed a successful repair and, if so, how? |

It can also be used under water so even a damp butt shouldn't be an issue. ;-) https://youtu.be/sbzozmZpT2c?t=110 It's used as std to form a flexible gasket / joint on the dagger board casing on my folding dinghy. ;-) Cheers, T i m |

Lasted more than 10 years so far. Things like sylglass or denso tape will also stick, better on the inside of course. |

There is a lot of pressure there, even my favourite Urethane bond only
lasted a year. What you need is a sack built like a pond liner inside it! Brian -- ----- -- This newsgroup posting comes to you directly from... The Sofa of Brian Gaff... Is it on the base? Plastic welding is quite a skill, it is normally done with a filler rod and a special tool. (I have a very impressive example on an ABS rear light done by my mechanic, it looks like a top quality TIG weld). You might just get away with a crude repair using s soldering iron (for example a pin-hole) but good luck trying a split! |

HDPE is plentiful in household waste. I'd also expect that just melting it hot enough & pouring it onto the previously v-shaped crack would work, but again have not tried it. The base would need to be resting on something non-melty of course. NT |
