Heat shrink tube fixing

Just a small point, how will you get the shrink tube past the first ring?

I had to renew each of the the rod rings and whippings. So once the rod
was sanded down and varnished just start with the largest ring and work
down. It's all done and the shrink tube I purchased did the job well.
