Hi all

I am fitting a couple of rads today and we have chrome plated pipe for the tails and then under the floor all the pipework is plastic. What's the best way to connect the plastic to the chrome? Can I use a standard plastic fitting as you can with copper? Do I need to remove the chrome plating?

Not generally - the two options a

Compression to copper then to plastic, or solder to chrome (after filing
the chrome off the end) then to copper.

You can (possibly) get inserts and olives to make off a plastic pipe
into a compression joint directly, but I'm not an expert.

Pushfit on chrome doesn't work - the chrome is too hard for the teeth to
get a grip and if you remove the chrome, there's a risk the pipe is too
rough for the rubber o ring.

You will likely find that the grab ring in the pushfit fitting does not
bite into the chromed pipe well enough, and there is a danger of it
popping off under pressure.

The safest method is with a compression fitting. Use a pipe insert on
the plastic end to support the plastic, and be prepared to tighten a
little more than would be required for plain copper on the chromed end.

standard compression fitting (straight or 90 degree to suit)- copper
in one end plastic in other.
Chrome is hard, so some jointing compound on the olive is a good idea.
