Alternatively, can anyone suggest a longer lived keyboard ? Probably not much use to you, but they do come up secondhand. I use IBM Model M keyboards (I have several). The one I'm using is 24 years old, and has been in daily use for that time (by me). Nothing fancy (no Windows key!) and needs a £5 USB converter or a suitable KVM. Very clicky and positive - not to everyone's taste. NOTHING has worn. I used to love them, but confess to having got used to the modern, less clicky ones. I too have had a few Model M keyboards, but prefer something slightly less clicky these days. Cherry Blue keyswitches are my favourites, YMMV. Cherry Keyboards come with keytops in both double-shot and non-doubleshot these days, I think; you have to look closelyto see what a particular model has. It is my impression that the Cheery black key tops tend not to be double-shot. At home I have a Cherry G80-3000 with grey double-shot key caps (expensive, difficult to find these says). At work I bouch a Filco 'Ninja' keyboard: http://www.keyboardco.com/product-im...wn_large_5.jpg These have the lettering on the *front* of the keys. The top surface is entirely black ('ninja'). They use Cherry switches (you can specify the type) and are pretty nice (again, expensive). One of these days I am going to come across and old Unicomp example at a car boot sale... Jon N |
