Default Outer insulation/harling lip

Why is the lip on people's outer foam insulation covered with harling curved out (left diagram) instead of down (right diagram)? I would have thought the one on the right would drip the water off better. Or is there another reason?

The one on the left will have a drip groove underneath the flare
just like underneath window sills.

But why the need for the flare?

The render stops at the bottom with a bell bead, this is what causes the
jutting out at the bottom, but you are mistaken with your diagrams, it's not
flat at the bottom, it points downwards like your second diagram.

So in short, the render (harling) does both, sticks out and points down,

I see. That makes much more sense.

In Today's Market Activity, Helium was up. Feathers were down. Paper was stationary. Fluorescent tubing was dimmed in light trading. Knives were up sharply. Cows steered into a bull market. Pencils lost a few points. Hiking equipment was trailing. Elevators rose, while escalators continued their slow decline. Weights were up in heavy trading. Light switches were off. Mining equipment hit rock bottom. Diapers remain unchanged. Shipping lines stayed at an even keel. The market for raisins dried up. Coca Cola fizzled. Caterpillar stock inched up a bit. Sun peaked at midday. Balloon prices were inflated. And, Scott Tissue touched a new bottom. Invest wisely!
