We've got a new sectional garage door that's for ever being left open if the button to close it isn't pressed as soon as we've finished with it and are back in the house. Has anyone got a simple warning light solution that I could install inside the house that will illuminate when the door has been left open. Preferably not requiring wiring being installed as I've just tidied up after wiring the button. And yes, I know it's much simpler just to remember to press the button to close it, but it's not happening. -- F Cheapo wireless doorbell eg http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Wirele...#ht_860wt_1091 with the pushbutton changed from a normally open type, to a normally closed one, maybe ? Mounted inside on the door frame, with a little tab of springy metal to push the switch when the door was down. You could even power the transmitter from a mains supply inside the garage, to save having to bother about making sure the batteries were always good. It's an idea but I thought to use a light because anything noisy could cause problems on days when the door is left open deliberately for access to things like the lawnmower. -- F Err, yes ... It was just a cheap way to get a wireless link. You don't have to actually use the sound that the indoor unit makes. It would be fairly easy to just disconnect the speaker, and look for a voltage that shifts level when the outdoor unit transmits. Use that to drive a small relay to switch whatever you like. However, if you are not an electronic-savvy DIYer, I can understand that the mods required might be more of a challenge than I had considered. Arfa |

Lots of the people on here are electronic-y types and I do it for a living, so I sometimes forget that it might be a foreign language to others ... :-) Sorry for adding confusion to the mix ! Arfa |

No confusion added, and thanks for the suggestion. I understand what you're suggesting, I just doubt my ability to make a neat and competent job of it! -- F |
