Anyone help with laser printer and refilling toner
I just acquired this printer from a friend as I was hacked off with the
cost of ink jet carts. I knew it was low on toner but it was working fine, anyhow I bought toner and refilled it expecting I may have to reset it. However when I press print the sheet goes part way into the printer and stops, there are no error messages (its a samsung ML2240) and the warning light for a paper jam comes on. I have checked everything and no paper jam evident. Could this be what happens after refilling a cartridge and it needs a reset. I dont want to mess too much (yet) as I have never had a laser printer before and its new territory. Tried google but not much info. Everything was ok up to the point I refilled the toner. |

I don't think that would produce that symptom. Looking at this site (http://www.urefilltoner.co.uk/) there is no indication that you need do anything other than refill the cartridge and replace the filler plug. They would tell you, if you bought the refill kit from them, if anything else was required. I have used them very successfully for an older Samsung. -- Old Codger e-mail use reply to field What matters in politics is not what happens, but what you can make people believe has happened. My guess is that you have either not put the cartridge back in correctly or you have not assembled the cartridge correctly after refilling it. |

By the way, are these worth refilling? I can see replacement cartridges for £13 delivered on eBay. |

I'd guess the drum mechanism is jammed. I wouldn't put it past them to have designed it to jam after an "unauthorised" refill. |

Maybe not but dont want to buy in case its another issue, ideally would want to use up the toner before I decide again. "My guess is that you have either not put the cartridge back in correctly or you have not assembled the cartridge correctly after refilling it." I dont think I have reassembled incorrectly as it can only go back together one way, but will recheck it tomorrow. The paper feeds in and upwards to what seems like the point where the drum is and then stops. Now I was thinking maybe dust or whatever on that but by all accounts from what I have read I shouldnt touch this drum. I have had the cartridge in/out a few time so think it is seated properly as clicks neatly in place. |

I've had an ML2010 for a few years: cheap and cheerful. I always have trouble putting the cartridge back in: it has to go in a long way (I appreciate that yours is a different model btw) and there's a definite clunk when it's in properly. I suggest you take it out and slide it back in again (and again and again if necessary) until it has definitely clunked into place. Also check the paper feed -- no sheet stuck in there is there? John I am sure its seated properly and definitely no paper stuck in it but I will go over the complete thing again tomorrow. I was hoping someone would have had the event where the cartridge needs reset and could tell me how the paper reacts or whatever the reaction is when it needs reset/chipped. |

You really need another working printer, then swap bits round until you figure out the problemo. To be frank, what your friend gave you is ancient, and you can probably pick up a new equivalent for under 50 quid. |

No reset required. I can't say about your printer, but the people who sell toner would know if it's needed. These cartridges have two compartments - one for new toner and one for waste. You sure you haven't done something silly, like fill up the wrong one? Does the drum turn okay when it's out of the machine? (Turn the cogs - do not touch the drum itself.) |

Will check tomorrow, to be honest didnt know there was a waste one, no mention in the manual. The seller has given details of a reset (if required) but dont want to go that route until I am sure it wasnt something I have done. |

Much as I appreciate your reply that wont happen if I can avoid it, wife earns enough to pay the bills, I cant get employment (health) dont get any benefits and pension not for another 5 years, I can earn about £100 a month selling printed stuff on ebay but only if costs are kept to a minimum hence trying to do on the cheap. I am not and never have been a big spender so thats enough income for me personally while wife is working. Your getting my life history now :-) We were both big earners until recently but a couple of life changing episodes changes your attitude to what is really important, I am just happy to trundle along and get a couple of beers at the weekend. Back on topic now....even if I bought a new one I would still try and refill so COULD end up with the same issue :-( |

I assume it should rotate quite freely? |

BTW, how many pages do you expect to print each month, roughly? |
