I subscribe to a number of newgroups, ranging from IT related to health and of
course this one. I have to say that the uk.d-i-y one is by FAR the best. Brilliant exchange of ideas and genuinely good advice. A thank you to everyone over the years who has contributed and helped me. |

I feel the same, although I am not subscribed to any others but I find it a lot better than some of the forums I browse/post to. -- David |

Have to agree it's a good usenet group ... been here since 1995 ... when you had to use trn or similar to access. The amount of off topic cross-posting seems to have reduced, (mainly selling trainers/Rolex/Viagra or some Religious fanaticism) it got so bad a while back I avoided using group for over a year. |

That's because you never bothered to learn how to filter out such garbage, it takes less than 5 minutes and you'll never see another ad for trainers again. |

How do you filter such garbage in less than 5 minutes? (Just asking for OP) :-) I pay someone the remarkably reasonable sum of EUR 10 a year to do it for me. http://www.individual.net/ trainers? Rolex? Viagra? Religious fanaticism? I don't see any of it. -- Mike Barnes |

Very little here either using a free provider. I wonder how much spam there is on Usenet these days. Still quite a bit in some groups. Is it worth the spammers while any more given the withering away of text Usenet, Since it costs them nothing to spam, presumably. the reduction in the number of servers, most of whom are commercial and operate a vigorous anti-spam policy? Plenty don’t. |

Best newsreader (GUI) I ever used was called ProNews/2. These days I use pan. I regard changing newsreaders with the same joy as changing text editors and having abdominal surgery. I agree.
