After posting here about the stainless knives in our cutlery set getting
crusted up, I now need to know how to polish them up to match the shine of the rest of the set. They are looking dull and overcast at the moment. Dave |

Dave If they have actually gone brown, as stainless tends to do when overheated, you will need a fairly abrasive polish, otherwise, there are plenty of metal polishes in your local store. If you want to restore the original mirror finish you will probably need a buffing wheel and the appropriate lapping compound. S |

It looks like the spoon was chromeplated, so it will never be shiny again. So try polishing one piece of cutlery before you do the whole lot. |

Never having buffed any steel since I was at school, I am out of touch with any of the modern polishing techniques. Dave |

No, it has not been overheated and gone brown, but is suffering from crusting and dulling from the dishwasher chemicals. Dave |

Dave Isn't it something to do with washing a silver plated item with stainless steel. It sets up some sort of reaction / electrolytic effect? (If I recall correctly) |
