Default Green Energy.

Fitted some mains/battery back up smoke detectors today, this caution notice
was inside the pack
Alternative Energy Sources ( Wind, solar UPS etc)
This product must be connected to a Pure or True Sine Wave 230 Vac supply.
It musr not be connected to devices giving a modified sine wave or quasi
sine wave 230 Vac such as most inverterws to solar panels, wind
turbines, water turbines or batteries. This also applies to battery powered
UPS inverters.
Either of these power sources will cause over heating which will damage the
product.
So much for home made electricity !

[Sorry about the blank post - finger trouble!]

Inverters *do* exist which give a pure sine wave output - like the one in my
Honda generator. So 'home made' electricity needn't be ruled out if you use
the right equipment.

Besides which, not everything is as fussy as that ('though some electronic
devices are) - and you can always use battery powered smoke alarms - the
batteries last for several years, and they bleep at you when running low.

Maybe the building regs will be updated so that if you install a
turbine you have to put in all new turbine-compatible smoke detectors.
With a Part Whatever certificate ...

Have you been involved with Woolies windmills when the grease overheats in
the bearings? The EU are just about to bring out a constraint to ensure that
those within 10km. of an offshore one cannot be overcome by the fumes!

And you can take the batteries out when you cook anything.
