DA Style Collets Ruined?
I have always wondered... On my larger units, I offer the option of DA
style collet chucks up to 3/4" shank capacity. Funny thing is that customers usually call me within 6 months to a year to get replacement collets. I assume they are spinning tools in the collets and ruining the ID surface of the collet and thus causing runout... Or maybe tightening the collet chuck around an empty collet and deforming it? What would cause a collet to go bad? The same doesn't hold true for the ER style collets on our smaller units and/or the Key Type chucks... At least not as often. ....Of course, it could simply be that they are losing them, but given their size, I doubt that is the case.
