I just subscribed to this group. Are discussions about welding appropriate
in this newsgroup? Just wondering. Thanks!

Welding is OK here, but the EXPERTS hang out over on
sci.engr.joining.welding
Of course a lot of the same people read both lists.

There are just as many "experts" here as the other group.

Analysis of the word expert:

ex -an unknown quantity
spurt - an uncontrollable drip

I have welded for 30 years this month. Underwater. Stainless steel. In a
habitat. I was a steel erection contractor for nine years. I don't
consider myself an expert. I think an expert is one who knows all about it,
can talk all day about it, but just can't do it.

Well fine, you just get faster answers (and more to the point IMHO) to
WELDING questions on the other group. And of course, there is a lot of
overlap on the two groups.

Just to help the NEW GUY asking a SIMPLE question. Sheesh. And if you
have another snappy answer to that, Double SHEESH!

I like the blurb told here a week or two ago, guy said he knew a pipefitter
who could strike an arc with one hand, while lighting a cigarette with the
other, he'd have an inch of (perfect) bead down in the joint before putting
away the lighter and flipping down the mask for a gander.

Ayup..the guy..my brother in law...was welding the brackets on my flag
pole..and did just that..fascinating to watch.

"I mean, when's the last time you heard of a college where the Young
Republicans staged a "Sit In" to close down the Humanities building?
On the flip side, how many sit in's were staged to close the ROTC building back in the '60's?
Liberals stage protests, do civil disobedience, etc.
Conservatives talk politely and try to work out a solution to problems
through discourse until they believe that talking won't work... they they go home and open the gun cabinets.
Pray things never get to the point where the conservatives decide that
"civil disobedience" is the next step, because that's a very short route to "voting from the rooftops"

A bit of advise from an old hot rodder. Spend your first money to make it
stop and turn. If you have money left over then make it go fast. If you
don't understand then look at all the wreaks in the scrapyard that could go
fast and not stop. After that then you can buy a radio.

I understand that pretty well actually. Subframe connectors & rear sway bar
from a 95 GT (much stiffer & not prone to breaking like the 98 rear sway
bars are) really stiffened up the car for me. I am thinking about the GT
Bullit suspension from FRPP... only about $400 & that's pretty damn good for
what you get. I'm dying to do at *least* a Cobra brake upgrade.
